Santa to arrive in Zurich Saturday

ZURICH - Santa Claus will be at
the Zurich Co-op on Saturday, De-
cember 5 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon.
Children can have their picture tak-
en with Santa while donuts, choco-
late milk and coffee will also be
available. There will also be horse-
drawn wagon rides.
Canada's music week
Students of Shelly Hoffman took
part in the Canada Music Week
Festival at the Western Ontario
Conservatory of Music in London
last week scoring excellent marks.
Result are as follows: pre -grade
1, Natalie Overholt 84, Katie Fox
84; grade 1, Marcia Denomme 84,
Melanie Regier 83; grade 2, Justin
Hoffman 86; grade 4, Lisa Ste-
wardson 88.
The music for young children,
pupils of Laurie Erb enjoyed a pro-
gram at the public school Friday
night to celebrate Canada's music
week. Each pupil invited a fnend
to join in the fun.
Christmas dinner
The Blue Water Rtst Home held
their annual Christmas dinner Sun-
day with families travelling from
far and near to be with their loved
ones. Members of the board, th,eir
tamilres and the auxiliary helped to
serve the meal prepared by Kathy
Steckle and her staff.
Shoppers of the Tenderspot in
Zurich are reminded to deposit
their cash register tapes in the box-
es by the door. The tapes will be
turned into money and given to the
local scouts and bean sprouts nur-
sery.
Lions
The Lions Club delivered the
new 1993 phone books last week.
If anyone did not receive a book,
they can pick them up at J & L Va-
riety Store. A reminder, to put
your old book~ in the blue box.
Grocery drive
The Optimist Club along with the
Zurich Scouts will be having a gro-
cery drive Saturday, December 5
from 10 a.m.-12 noon. They will
be collecting non-perishable food
items to be given to Blessings Un-
limited to distribute to those in
need.
Women's
Ministries
meet
EXETER - ahc Thursday meet-
ing of the Women's Ministries,
from the Exeter Pentecostal Taber-
nacle assembled in the home of
Ruth McLaren.
Jean Triebner led in some chorus-
es "Let the Beauty of Jesus" and
"Some Golden Daybreak".
The roll call was taken by Shirley
Prouty and was answered by a
scripture verse on "Honour". There
were 11 present.
Missionary money was given to
the Kosters in the Netherlands. It
was also decided to *end money to
the Argentina orphanage.
Mrs. Peebles gave a message tak-
en from Psalm 8.
She also played a tape with Mar-
garet Jenson speaking on "A
Thankful Heart".
They had a turkey supper at the
church. Rev Peebles asked the
blessing on the food.
Phyllis Runnier gave a Christmas
reading following *upper. ildiUctrd
Prouty gave a reading on "When
Father Carved .the .Duck" .and "The
Captains Daughter". Don lolly
gave a reading on "In Honour of
Mothers and Daughters".
History trip
Two bus loads of grade 10 stu-
dents from South Huron DHS in
advanced history spent last Tues-
day in Toronto at the legislative
buildings, sitting in on a session of
parliament. They enjoyed their
own private talk with various
MPPs including Huron MPP Paul
Klopp.
Christmas crafts
There will be a Christmas craft
show and sale at the Zurich Town-
ship Hall Friday, December 4 from
2-9 p.m. Local people will have
handmade crafts and items on dis-
play.

Percy and Marie Bedard Sr. cele-
brated their 55th wedding anniver-
sary. Also celebrating anniversar-
ies were Leandrea and Teresa
Bedard and John and Bernadette
Denomme.
Birthday wishes to Sandra Over-
holt, Rose -Marie Rothenberg, Kyle
Fenwick, Percy Bedard, Jim Simp-
son, Tabitha Overholt, Stephanie
Gelinas, Ken Mittleholtz, George
Suplat and to Vera Thiel, a patient
in South Huron hospital who cele-
brated her 70th.

ed the confirmation of their grand-
daughter Melanie in London on
Sunday.
The family of Marcella Dietrich
recently held their Christmas dinner
at the Dashwood Community Cen-
tre.
The Ducharme family Christmas
was held Saturday at the home of
Matthew and Martha.
Bettie Geoffrey is a patient in
Victoria Hospital. Son Brian of
. Michigan recently spent time visit-
ing his parems and attended the fu-
neral of his aunt Gladys Bedard.

brated at both Varna and Goshen
Churches Sunday, November 29.
Sunday School Superintendent Joe
Laurie was the leader in Varna
Church. Janet, Mark and Brian
Webster all took part in4ighting the
first Advent Candle. First Scripture
Reading (Isaiah 11:1-6) was read
by Meggin Bartliffe Reid and the
second Scripture Reading (Mat-
thew 3:1-6) was read by Heather
Beierling. Joe Laurie led everyone
in prayer ending with the Lord's
Prayer: Then a treasure hunt (a time
for offering ourselves and our gifts)
followed. Three young boys from
the senior class, Brian Webster, Mi-
chael Harris and Andrew Mount
took part in this involving other
younger members of the Sunday
School class. The congregation fol-
lowed with their white gifts and or
envelopes.
Stan Lec Seniors meet at the
complex for a potluck Christmas
dinner on Wednesday, December 2
at 6 p.m.
Thutnday, December 3 the Varna
U.C.W. are holding their potluck
Christmas Dinner at 6 p.m. with
former members invited.
Thursday, December 3 the
Trends (ages 10-13) will be meet-
ing in Brucefield Church.
The Young Peoples group (grade
nine and up) are to meet Sunday,
December 6 at 7 p.m. at the Zurich
Blue Water Rest Home for a time
of carolling.
The Official Board meets Mon-
day, December 7 in Goshen United
Church at 8 p.m. All members are
to attend.
The Sunday School Concert for
both Varna and Goshen will be
held December 13 following the
church service and a potluck finger
food lunch.
The Candlelight Service will be
Sunday evening, December 20 in
Goshen Church this year.
