Panthers' cprner
Juniors denied conference crown
Continued from page 17
ket was not strong.
Just 30 seconds into the second
quarter, the Vikings tied the game
12-12 and with just two minutes
left in the period, went up 18-16
and they never gave up the lead as
they were up 22-18 at the half.
South Huron could only manage
four points in the third quarter and
nearly had only one basket until
guard Heather Davies stole the ball
and went in for a layup.
The Panthers tightened up their
defence a little in the fourth quarter
but it was too:late as the Vikings
hung on to win.
South Huron who hit only 5 -of -
15 from the free throw line had a
good chance of taking the lead in
the fourth quarter but Mclnnis and
Davies both missed the fust shot
on a bonus free throw situation and
Tara Pepper not only came up short
on a pair from the line but a shot
from close in circled the rim but
wouldn't drop.
Karin Million led the Vikings
with eight points while Miller leek
all scorers as the Panther forward
had 10 while Davies netted eight
and Mclnnis added six.
0th H nron L _ W wtshmm 1 .
On Wednesday in the conference
semi-final at South Huron, the
game was in the, books by the first
quarter as the Panthers jumped into
a 20-5 lead and were up 36-7 at the
half.
Davies led all scorers as she
scored 18 points, 12 in the first half
while McInnis hit for 16, Candace
Miller had 12 and Pepper added
eight.
Paw prints: -Those involved in
the Spirit Club should be congratu-
lated for a job well done. They had
a drum beating and chanted
throughout the junior final on Fri-
day. They even had a well choreo-
graphed performance of dancers at
halftime...
Although neither the juniors or
seniors from South Huron won the
Conference title they had excellent
regular season records and with a
strong midget team graduating to
higher ranks, the Panthers will
sport some good teams in the very
near future.

Hockey team drops
opener to St. Marys
EXETER - The South Huron District High School Panthers hockey
team got off to a rough start as they dropped their Huron -Perth opener
4-2 to St. Marys on Wednesday afternoon.
At the South Huron Recreation Centre, the Panthers were down 1-0
but bounced'back and made it 2-1 as they scored two very quick goals.
Rob Kramer tied the game with a shorthanded goal when there was
just 1:47 left in the opening period and Jason Hodgson gave the hosts a
one -goal lead when he connected 51 seconds later.
But St. Marys dominated the rest of the game, tieing it in the second
and holding off the Panthers in the third. Jon Schiedel had two goals
for the winners with singles to Rob Mcintosh and Greg Bladder.
The Panthers will try to get on the winning side of the scoreboard
when they travel to Wingham to face F.E. Madhill on Friday.
Seniors
