(N.D.P.-Middlesex) an- nounced Priday that the Larndon- Middlesex'Roman -Catholic Secon- dary School Board and the Mid- dlesex County •Board of Education will receive more than $13.6 mil- lion as part of the province's 1992 education capital program. The RCSSB will receive $13,112,280 for construction of St. Thomas Aquinas, a new secondary school in London. The new school will create 1,450 pupil places, help- ing' to ease the serious overcrowd- ing problem which has been pla- • guing the Board for years. The Middlesex Board of Educa- tion will receive $553,088 to imple- ment Junior Kindergarten program at various schools throughout Mid- dlesex County. "I'm pleased that the government is able to help the Boards to contin- ue to provide excellent education for 'the children of Middlesex County", said Mathyssen. "Equally important, construction associated with -these 'grants will mean jobs and a boost to the local economy." The grants are part of the $301.7 million province -wide capital fund- ing program announced Thursday by •education minister Tony Silipo. . The 333 capital projects are expect- ed to create one year's worth of em- ployment for 3,644 people through- out Ontario. The minutes from last years meeting were read. Activities held throughout the year were reported on along with the treasurer's re- port: —The new board members were voted in for the next three year term. .Next-.1f_tn._Hummel entertained everyone with a Yankic Dutch reading. It was very enjoyable. .Deb Siertsenw and Darlene Van Der Veen closed the meeting with one more song. Deb Bruinsma closed the meet- ing in waver. The Clinton and District Chris- tian School Parent-Teacher Asso- ciation is represented with dele- gates from the following areas: Blyth, Clinton, Exeter, Goderich and Vaoastra, along with three school staff members. Mt. Carmel CWL MT. CARMEL - The November meeting of Mt. Carmel C.W.L. was opened with prayer by Father Be- gat() with 25 Members present. Cutest speaker was Janet Martin, Big V phan»acist. who spoke on coughs and colds. A bus trip to Hamilton to see the Geritol Follies is being planted for June. Another.successful annual ba- zaar was held. On Thursday night, November 19, 1992, ten tweenies flew up to brownies at the first Joint induction ceremony for all members of the guiding organization. Kirkton Guiding on the rise KTRKTON - On Thursday evening November 19 at the Kirkton Community Centre, there was quite a hap- py and excited crowd. The Kirkton Guiding units held their annual Parent/Daughter pot luck supper in which about 100 people took part This banquet preceded this year's enrolment. It was especially impressive in that all the girls got enrolled the same night. Brownie leaders Wendy Nethercou and Ruth Robin- son brought 10 tweenies up through the magic mirror to become Brownies. Guide leaders Karen Mortimer, Edith Biggs and Deb Pihl helped tenderfoots through the guide laws to be- come Girl Guides. - Pathfinder Leaders Carole Damen and Kathy Holds- worth inspired three girls down the pathways to be- come Pathfinders. Ranger leader Sue Robinson encour- aged four young ladies into the wider world of Rangers. In total 32 girls joined the ranks of the Guid- ing program in Kirkton. The units already are home to 25 girls who arc enjoying the challenges brought to them by their leaders. To top the evening off two girls, Michelle McRobert and Rosemary Damen, received their Canada Cord. This is the highest award available in the Pathfinder program.
