Wein and his team- mates did well in much of the tournament play. The tournament was hoped to help rejuve- nate the board game as a competitve sport in the area. GRAND BEND - The organizer of a series of crokinole tourna- ments said he will have to recon- sider the viability of the events af- ter a tournament on the weekend failed to attract participants from the immediate area. Sheldon Wein, who organized the tournament in the hope it could rekindle a local interest in the board game, said he was pleased that many competitors braved the slippery weather to at- tend from as far away as London, St. Jacobs, Goderich, Fergus, and Watford. But of the nearly 30 par- ticipants. only a couple were from Grand Bend and none from Exet- er. "Who knows?" said Wein when asked if -he would be orga- nizing future tournaments. "It doesn't look like we can make it a financial success." Competition wise, however, Wein said he still likes to think the event was successful. The tournament, held at Gor- dies Beach Club, also featured a display of antique crokinole boards provided by local aficio- nado Wayne Kelly. Some boards were a century old. Winners on Saturday afternoon was the team of Earl Paulen of Mitchell and Sheldon Wein. In second were Cathy and Jack Baker of Fergus, with Earl Flax - bard and Ciwen McKellar of Zu- rich in third. Wein and Paulen won again Saturday evening, with Marg and Ivan McClymont of Varna in set - ond, and the team of Cathy Baker and Ina Neeb of Zurich taking third. Sunday afternoon winners were Jack Baker and Ina Neeb, with Wein and Gord Bryan in second and Paulen and Ivan McClymont in third. High centres for the tournament were recorded by Jack Baker on Saturday and Sunday aftemoons, and Wein on Saturday evening. Winner of the 50/50 draw was 011ie Johnston of Wyoming.
