Hensall Venturer gets award
TORONTO - Shawn Wurm of the
1st Hensall Venturer Company was
among almost 60 young people to
receive Scouting's Queen's Venturer
Awards from the Honourable Henry
N.R. Jackman, Lieutenant Governor
of Ontario on Saturday, October 24.
Shawn received Scouting's highest
youth award, for achieving a high
level of competence and skills, at
the Sixth Provincial Queen's Ventur-
er Ceremony, held in the council
chamber at the Mississauga Civic
Centre.

Venturers is a co-educational sec-
tion of Scouts Canada and its mem-
bers range in age from 14 to 17
years. There are about 2,700 Ventur-
ers in Ontario, where Scouts Canada
has a total youth membership of
close to 90,000. The young people
receiving their Awards this year rep-
-resented 40 Venturer Companies
throughout the Province of Ontario.

of thanks on water
LUCAN - A resident of Biddu1ph
township has sent a ktier of thanks
to Lucan council regarding his re-
cent water hook-up.
Bob Taylor extended thanks for
his being able to hook on to the wa-
ter pipeline going into the village.
Taylor went on to say, " I would
like to extend a special thank -you
to works superintendent Doug
Johnston for his advice and exper-
tise in the matter and • to clerk Ron
Reymer for the -professional man-
ner and the methodical way he han-
dled the various stages of progres-
sion re the hook-up".
He concluded, "Excellent com-
munities such as the village of Lu -
can, do not just happen, they are
formed by people like you".
Drug Awareness Week
holding workshop
GODERICH - '1' pan of Huron
County's local urug Awareness
Week (DAW) ac, vities, Huron Ad-
dicition Assessment and Referral
Centre (HAARC) will host a lunch-
eon workshop entitled Making Con-
nections - "Childhood Trauma, Ad-
diction and Eating Disorders
Among Women" at the Maitland
Country Club in Goderich on No-
vember 20 from 12 to 3 p.m.
Guest speaker, Connie Coniglio,
will examine the connections be-
tween early childhood trauma and
abuse, and the subsequent develop-
ment of adult difficulties such as ad-
dictions, eating disorders, and adult,
victimization among women.
The cost of this workshop is $15
which includes lunch. Registration

effects"; says Meryl Thomas, Direc-
tor of HAARC. "That's why we
think it's important to get involved
in drug Awareness Week."
DAW is about individuals, organi-
zations and whole communities
coming together to raise awareness
of drug and alcohol abuse.

Dance 'woes $800
After fast Wednesday aftemoon's pep rally at South Hu
ron District High School, the school got to see the out-
come of their last fundraising dance. Fred Steciuk (cen-
tre left) presents a cheque to Kathleen Petch for about
$800 which will go towards Camp Trillium, a camp for
children suffering with cancer.
