In a very exciting gamc, the Irish dropped a close 4-2 decision to the visiting Mitchell Hawks. The score was 3-2 but the Hawks added an empty -nester. Lucan bounced back and beat Seaforth 4-2 on Friday and on Sun- day afternoon travelled w Alvins- ton where they won their tenth in 11 starts, a 7-2 decision over the Alvinston Flyers. "It rad w happen sooner or later. It might as well happen to them (Mitchell)," said Lucan coach Ken Needham. Last year in the division finals, Mitchell and Lucan battled to a seven -game final series and the Hawks are once again expected to be near the top of the standings. Wednesday the Irish jumped into a 1-0 lead when Steve Moore went m and beat Mitchell goalie Dennis Scherbarth on his glove side. But it was 1-1 after the first period as the Hawks scored on a powerplay. "They (Lucan) actually didn't play that bad, we outshot them," said Needham whose team had more shots, 35-27. "Their goalie came up with a big game." With just just 6:36 left in the sec- ond period the Hawks made it 2-1 and it was 3-1 on some sloppy play by Lucan in their own end with just a couple of minutes left to go in the period. Lucan's Greg DePrest scored from close range less than seven minutes into the third period and Being held down during Wednesday's OHA Junior Develop- ment League game was Irish forward Greg DePrest. Still in second Hawks fall prey to hungry Flyers By Fred Groves T -A stain EXETER - Most 't's, facing Alvinston would m. o points. But Friday night at we South Hu- ron Recreation Centre, the host Ex- eter Hawks lost big, 8-4 to the Fly- ers. A couple of nights later however, the Hawks bounced back and beat the host Seaforth Centenaires, 6-4. That kept them in second place with a 7-4 record. Alvinston have traditionally fin- ished near the bottom of the OHA Junior Development League the last few years so beating them isn't always that tough. However, the Hawks trailed 4-0 at the end of the first period and it was 6-2 alter 20 minutes. Up until Friday's game, the Hawks were playing well and had won their last four in a row. DePrest who notched his ninth goal of the season and helped set up Moore on the other Lucan goal, said Mitchell's penalty killing unit played well. 'We've been working on our powerplay but there were some tough breaks," said DePrest. Their forwards were really pressing us in the corner, especially (Kory) Dietz. We had no time to set up."
