LUCAN The bubble had w
break sometime
Atter starting the 1991-92 OHA
Junior Development League with
an 8-0 record, the Lucan Irish
dropped then first game of the sea-
son Wednesday night.
In a very exciting gamc, the Irish
dropped a close 4-2 decision to the
visiting Mitchell Hawks. The score
was 3-2 but the Hawks added an
empty -nester.
Lucan bounced back and beat
Seaforth 4-2 on Friday and on Sun-
day afternoon travelled w Alvins-
ton where they won their tenth in
11 starts, a 7-2 decision over the
Alvinston Flyers.
"It rad w happen sooner or later.
It might as well happen to them
(Mitchell)," said Lucan coach Ken
Needham.
Last year in the division finals,
Mitchell and Lucan battled to a
seven -game final series and the
Hawks are once again expected to
be near the top of the standings.
Wednesday the Irish jumped into
a 1-0 lead when Steve Moore went
m and beat Mitchell goalie Dennis
Scherbarth on his glove side. But it
was 1-1 after the first period as the
Hawks scored on a powerplay.
"They (Lucan) actually didn't
play that bad, we outshot them,"
said Needham whose team had
more shots, 35-27. "Their goalie
came up with a big game."
With just just 6:36 left in the sec-
ond period the Hawks made it 2-1
and it was 3-1 on some sloppy play
by Lucan in their own end with just
a couple of minutes left to go in the
period.
Lucan's Greg DePrest scored
from close range less than seven
minutes into the third period and

EXETER - Most 't's, facing
Alvinston would m. o points.
But Friday night at we South Hu-
ron Recreation Centre, the host Ex-
eter Hawks lost big, 8-4 to the Fly-
ers.
A couple of nights later however,
the Hawks bounced back and beat
the host Seaforth Centenaires, 6-4.
That kept them in second place
with a 7-4 record.
Alvinston have traditionally fin-
ished near the bottom of the OHA
Junior Development League the
last few years so beating them isn't
always that tough.
However, the Hawks trailed 4-0
at the end of the first period and it
was 6-2 alter 20 minutes. Up until
Friday's game, the Hawks were
playing well and had won their last
four in a row.

Exeter has also lost to ML Brydg-
e' another team that usually is an
ea mark.
"'They were too over confident
before those games, especially to-
night," said Hawks' coach George
Pratt
"We came in with a four-gante
winning streak and expected to
step on the ice and get two points."
Alvinston goalie Matt DanBrook
came up- big in the first period as
he turned away nine shots. Exeter
goalie Clint McCann struggled all
night
The visitors got on the board just
2:41 into the game when Greg Gar-
side connected and by .the 12:17
point it was 3-0 as Steve Shea and
Many Swan scored. Shanc White-
side got a powerplay goal and the
Hawks were down 4-0 going into
the first break.
"I'm upset to the point the guys
didn't come to play," said Pratt but
added, "1 think we're going to be in
the top three."
Garside got his second before
Scan McCann finally put the
Hawks on the board at 11:30 as he
teamed defencemen with Jamie
Cornish and Jason McBride. Less
than two minutes later Steve Farqu-
har connected from Nick Szabo and
Dave Darlymple.
It was the lust game back fol
Dalrymple and he and Szabo also
helped on Sean McCann's goal in
the third period. At the 17:52 point
of the middle period, Brian Pa-
cheao got his first of three for the
Flyers.
He added two more in the third
period, both of them powerplay
goals. Alvinston scored four goals
on the powerplay.
Besides Sean McCann, Kevin
Tate scored for Exeter in the third
with John O'Hara assisting.
Exeter was short of forwards as
Todd McCann, Paul Manders, 'Dan
Ryan and Andrew Barton were all
absent.
Hawks 6, Ceateoaires 4
Having Barton back in the lineup
sure helped Exeter as the veteran
forward helped set up three goals.
Dan Irvine had a big night with a
hat trick while Ray Cpusitteau had
a goal and a pair of assists. Sean
McCann notched his 12th of the
season and Dalrymple'got his first.
when the Hawks were slapped with
several penalties it looked as
though the Irish would come -from -
behind to win.
Mitchell's Darryl Eidt was in the
box for four minutes for spearing
but Lucan's powerplay came up
shon.
"Our powerplay has worked well
but it can't work all the time," said
Needham.
DePrest who notched his ninth
goal of the season and helped set
up Moore on the other Lucan goal,
said Mitchell's penalty killing unit
played well.
'We've been working on our
powerplay but there were some
tough breaks," said DePrest. Their
forwards were really pressing us in
the corner, especially (Kory) Dietz.
We had no time to set up."

In the only Other meeting of these
two teams tins far, the Irish won 4-
1 in Mitchell but that night, the
Hawks did not come out and play
physical like they did Wednesday
night in Lucan.
Irish goalie Eoin McInerney
played well and made a couple of
big saves on Mitchell's Rob Bo-
ville. It was Bovillc who scored
into the empty net.
Irish 4, Centenaires 2
DcPrest sparked the offence Fri-
day night with a goal and three as-
sists while rookie Shawn Kaczma-
rek fired two tallies.
Also having a big night was
winger Steve Moore as he scored
one goal and set up two more.
The Irish took three minor penal-
ties while Seaforth had four. Goalie
Brent Lewis picked up the win.
Irish 7, Flyers 2
The Lucan defence came up big
again allowing just a couple of
goals thanks to the netminding of
Eoin McInerney. The Irish got a
very well balanced scoring attack
in this one as Kaczmaerek notched
a pair with singles to Jason Glasser,
DePrest, Moore, Jeff Stanton and
Jason McLeod. Moore and DePrest
