AILSA CRAIG Where was
summer 1992? This year will prob-
ably go into history as the year
there was no summer. Today's
teenagers will have something to
tell their grandchildren about "One
year when 1 was a youngster..."
In spite of the cool, rainy weath-
er, the Craigwicl Day Centre
Keenagers still had 9 out of 11
planned picnics and barbeques.
They made use of the lovely
wheel chair walks at Rock Glen
and ate picnic lunches in that love-
ly setting and had several out door
BBQs on the grounds in addition
to the usual picnic days at staff
homes.
The seniors enjoyed the sights,
sounds, smells and tastes of the
Western Fair on two strei•ssive
days. When the newly renovated
home of the Huronview Adult Day
Centre opened celebrating their
15th Anniversary, we boarded
three vans and a car, had lunch at
Erb's Country Kitchen in Zurich
before going on up to Clinton to
help them celebrate. It was a nice
time of year to drive through the
couetrsissidc.
This past week we found some
beautiful colour and scenery driv-
ing about 20 km right around Ailsa
Craig. Haven't the colours been ab-
solutely gorgeous this year!
This summer, we had an "Arts

and Crafts" week that widened our
horizons considerably. Shirley
Dorman came to demonstrate how
to make lovely decorative bows.
Laune Engel showed us the part of
making chocolates. We had an al-
ready acquired talent of tasting
that was put in good use that day!
Notal Steeper gave us some
great tips to make figure drawing
easy. It's surprising what one can
do if you have a few basic rules
and ups to help you get started.
Willy Heidebrecht also was gen-
erous with his holiday time and in-
troduced us to the art of silk
screening. We each went home
with a striking print to display.
Walt Silverson finished up a de-
lightful week, showing us his won-
derfully life -like carvings of bons
and waterfowl.
We've been doing some of our
own crafts too! Fan door/wall deco-
rations, ceramics and cow tickers
are some that we've done. What are
cow tickers, you ask? Come 10 our
November 27 bazaar and find out!
We enjoy days centered around
foods at times. One week we had
sundaes on a Monday. 'Twice -we
had sausage on a bun barbeques in
the courtyard of tole Craigwiel
Apartments and we've started our
monthly soup and sandwich days
with a bacon and potato soup. Talk-

re-
ing about the Netherlands got- us
psyched up for Dutch soup and Nasi
Goreng, an Indonesian dish the peo-
ple of Holland enjoy. When Emillic
Janssens came to tell about his col-
lection of apple trees of many varie-
ties, we used that occasion to make
apple fritters for dessert.
Anne Zamprogna, Placement Co-
orinator came to explain -the role of
that organization and answered
many of our questions about the
process that most of us must face
sooner or later. We learned how im-
portant it is to get our names on the
list and preferences stated even if
there is no immediate need foreseen.
Glen Scarborough provided a very
interesting afternoon exploring the
how-tos of tracing our roots and told
us of his involvement with the Ge-
nealogy Society.
Even though some of our special
guests couldn't make it to our Music
and Talent Concert because of ill-
ness, etc., Courtney Fox talent on
the piano and her beautiful singing
along with Melissa Simpson's dance
routine gave us pleasure to remem-
ber for a long time.
Ruth Smith took us to Europe by
means of slides and commentary.
Either the number of slides or the
length of the commentary stretched
the adventure to two installments.
The first, to England, Scotland,
France and Switzerland, and the
following one in Austria, Germany
and Holland.
Evelyn McNaughton kindly
brought a pot pours of slides the
day the picnic at her farm was can-
celled due to the weather. She has
given us many hours of pleasure
with her photography talents.
