Wednesday afternoon, the juniors beat visiting Seaforth 40-31 and picked up their sixth conference win in -Us -many -starts. This one was not as easy as the final score showed as the Panthers only scored two points in the third quarter. But while watching Sea - forth tie the score at 26-26 early in the few th quarter, . South Huron poured it on in the last few min- utes. Midway through the quarter, Candace Miller made a basket, was fouled and hit the free throw for a three-point play. That gave the home team , a 31-28 advantage which they did not give -up. Miller and Christie McInnis each had seven points for the winners- who innerswho led 22-16 at the half. Great ending: There was a lot of Runners head to WOSSA WINGHAM - Once again South Huron will be very well represented in cross-country at the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association meet on Thursday at London's Fanshawe Park. The Panthers competed in the Huron -Perth conference meet on Wednes- day and had several strong performances. Dan Vanderlaan brought, home a third place finish in the senior boys' division while in the junior girls, Mol- ly McClure was also third. Jana Webster and Sara Battersby rounded out a good effort by the junior girls as they placed 14th andl7th respectively. In the junior boys' gip, Rob Miller was 12th; RJ. Milne, 17th; and Shawn McCurdy, 26th. Led by the ninth place performance of Mike Cootman, the midget boys' team was second overall. Other top runners were Kevin Bierling, 10th: Scott McDonald, 16th; Jeff DeBloeck, 20th. Also competing for the mid- get team were Eric Hundey, Bryce Hann, Mike Schmidt, Steve Straw and Bryan Negnjn. Jessie Brown, of the midget girls' basketball team goes up for a shot ,against Sea - forth during action on Wednesday. South Huron hung on for a 37-36 win. Easy win in semis for girls field hockey team EXETER - The South Huron Dis- tract High School Panthers girls [field hockey learn once again gained a berth in the Huron -Perth Conference finals as they easily beat visiting Listowel Lords 4-0 last Tuesday afternoon in emi- t acuon. Despite indrmate weather, the Panthers recieved goals from Bre- nyn Baynham, Danielle Miners, Wendi Sims and lenity Aeon. Goalie Tonya Riehl recorded, the shutout. Leading by ten points -at 'one time, the Panthers defence was a little shakey and they made several fouls allowing -the -visitors to pull to within one point. Seniors win: Leading fairly easi- ly, 20-6 at the half, the senior girls won their fourth conference game and are now 4-2. The Panthers had a little trouble on the foul line, hitting just 3-oi- 1K, Guard Stacey Roder had 11 points while Amy Campbell added seven. Tough tournament: The seniors travelled to Arva's Medway High School for a tournament nn the weekend and made it to the conso- lation final. In the final, Kerry Manders had eight points for the Panthers in a 40-29 loss to St. Mikes. Souter Huron heat Northwestern 33-23 as Amy Campbell netted 11 points, including a three -pointer and Angie Gould had 10 points. In the opener, the Panthers were beaten 58-24 by Chatham Kent Camphell had seven points. senior spikers hot EXETER - The senior boys volleyball team continued with success in their regular Huron Conference season as they improved their record to 13 wins and just two losses and are in first place. At South Huron last Tuesday, they beat Centra ron by scores of 15- 13, 15-6 and 15-4. Against Goderich, the Panthers the first one, 15-12 but came back to win 15-11 and 15-9. Josh Vermeulen and Oreg Agnew had strong games while Dennis Welsh added steady play in two games that helped bring the Panthers a pair of wins. The seniors play in Wingham this week and will have an exhibition match against Stratford Central and play in the Mitchell invitational on Saturday. Going up for a block against Goderich were senior spikers Keith Crawford and Scott Parsons of South Huron.
