GRAND BEND - The Lambton
Heritage Museum will be holding
a formal opening ceremony for its
recently completed facility expan-
sion. The new addition, which in-
cludes air conditioning equipment
to preserve the artifacts, will be
formally opened by County, Pro-
vincial and Federal officials as part
of the tribute to the Lakeview Ca-
sino evening,•October 24.
In addition to the formal open-
ing, donors from across the county
and arca will be presenting several
historically significant collections
requiring stable temperature and
humidity environments.
Ed Phelps of London will
present a set of rare fire plans from
Lambton villages, dating from the
early 1900s. Fire plans were pre-
pared by insurance companies, and
detail the precise placement of
every type of structure, even out-
buldings.
Mrs. Gordon Hess of Zurich will
be presenting a rare and unique

for the celebration next year at the
Pinery Provincial Park of Ontario's
Park Centennial,
Pat, Venton of Grand Bend, will
be presenting a quartzite spear -
point measuring nine inches in
length, excavated in Grand Bend.
The point is estimated to be close to
3000 years in age, and presents a
fascinating insight into the prehis-
toric history of the north Lambton
area. It is of a type of stone recog-
nized by archaeologists as Sheguin-
dah, and onginates in the Blarney
area of northern Ontario, probably
having been traded into this area in
return for other traded goods. The
spearpoint indicates that humans
have enjoyed the dense forests and
fine sand beaches and inland lakes
of north Lambton for longer than
we think. The point will be given a
prominent location on the nee
