EXETER - Five games in nine days
That's how the Exeter Mohawks will begin
their 1992-93 Senior "A" hockey regular era -
See schedule.
Beginning Saturday, the defending provin-
cial champions head to Ingersoll to take on
the Ws enclitic -next night, in the comfort of
the South Huron' Reemeatk n Oentre,'the Mo-
hawks faceoff against -the Aylmer Hornets at
7:30 p.m. in their home opener.
Mohawks coach -general manager Davc
Revington said a busy early season could be
.beneficial,
"It might be an opportunity to get every
body together for a change," he said.
The Mohawks have not had a lot of bodies on the ice for their train-
ing camp and exhibition season.
Exeter had a good pre -season, coming away with three wins in four
games and outscoring their opponents 25-17.
Goal scoring has never been a problem for this club and once again
that is where there strength will be. Through the pm -season, third -year
forward Kevin McArter netted six goals and added a couple of assists.
There are three new faces in the Mohawks' lineup this fall. Defense -
man Cory McGee comes right out of the Brussels Junior 'C. Bulls and
he'll be joined on the bluelme by returnees Ron Elliott, Chet Couture,
Barry Baynham, Dale Timmermans and Jeff Warren. Kris Bedard has
yet to report to the tears.
Up front, Rob Kingshot is the only newcomer. The London native
was a high scorer with the University of Westeni Ontario Mustangs.
"We've got a.couple of new guys that will make -an impression. King-
shot will give nsoo ne offense," said Revington.
Between the pipes the Mohawks will probably sport the youngest
due, with second -year Jeff Hill and Trevor•Hunter who played Junin
C in New Hamburg feast year. Rick Pikul has relived.
"You can't have a Rick Pikul type of goalie every year," said Reving-
ton who is pleaseed-with-hisyoung netminders.
"It might be an opportunity to get
everybody together for a Change"
In the pre -season Hill, who is nursing some bruised ribs and Hunter,
combined for a 4.25 goals against average. .
The biggest problem the Mohawks have had so far is lack of players.
They have yet to put a fol! team on the scoresheet.
"We have'about 32 guys that we've had a one-time pmmise they'll he
out," said Revington.
Exeter has the habit of signing players late in the year for the big
playoff push. They managed to win the big games but some people
question the amount of -commitment.
"1 expect all kind of guys around in Fehruary," said Revingron "Of-
ten coming off a championship they get demanding. They don't have
the drive."
The Mohawks stook head -and -shoulders above the rest of the Senior
'A' league last year sweeping the pmvincial final series against Pt. Ed-
ward in four straight_
Lastyear's rookie standout Craig Oster, who was fifth in league scor-
ing, is now playing for the Mustangs. Centre Tim Shields is insured and
Tim Ritz is expected back tater this month.
League leading scorer Joe Scherer is back along with Jeff Shipley.
Gord Brooks, McArter, Paul Barton, Jeff Pfaff. Richard Hawkins. Dale
Gibbon, Geg Snyder and Andre Prevost.
