Fun -filled Week of the ChM
HENSALL - The Village of Hen-
sall officially kicked off its seventh
annual "Week of the Chili" cele-
bration with events continuing
throughout this week.
"The Week of the Child" is a
joint venture by interested organi
zations, service associations, local
government and merchants of the
village, who take part in promoting
various activities for local children
throughout the week.
Children are issucd point collec-
tor sheetsto be used to gather
points for participation to the many
activities. The top two point col-
lectors in each of their respective
categories are then eligible for priz-
es sponsored by the Hansa!! BIA.
Categories include ages 3 years to
kindergarten, grades 1-2, grades 3-
S and grades 6-8.
A list of events can be found at
the clerk's office and all organ
tions have again opened their doors
to encourage children to join in
with them whether they are a regis-
tered member or not, and mond
and dads are also encouraged to
come along.
To be eligible for points, the
sheet must he signed by an author-
izai person indicating that the par-
ticipant has shamed in the activities

tober 20, 1982 - Mayor .Bruce Shaw and councillor
Bill-Mickle have scheduld an industrial promotion trip to
Germany next month in an attempt to lure prospective in-
dustries to Exeter.
"Over my dead body" was the reaction of Gary Birm-
ingham of the South Huron Rec Centre Board when it was
suggested Thursday that video game machines be installed
at the local facility as a revenue producing scheme.
A new high in revenue from South Huron Hospital Aux-
iliary rummage, sales will be realized in 1982 after last
week's fall edition raised $5,500. When added to the
spring sale revenue the year's total will be $11,800, sur-
passing last year's amount of $11,200.
Another very successful Red Cross blood donor clinic in
Exeter is over and 284 prospective donors took time to roll
up their sleeves and help the fight to save lives.

Charlie MacNaughton recorded his second straight
landslide victory in last week's provincial election in the
riding of Huron -Middlesex and failed by only. 51 votes to
equal his record setting majority polled back in 1963.
MacNaughton drew 8:343 votes to 3,723 for Liberal Mor-
gan Smith and 1,340 for NDP John Boyne.
Ontario Agriculture Minister W.A. Stewart announced
this week that 30 Koreans will come to Canada for practi-
cal training in farming. Two months will be spent at Cen-
tralia College of Agricultural 1 echnolog) .
Exeter council has prohibited the burning of leaves or
other refuse on the paved portion of any street.
50 Years Ago
October 22, 1942 A deputation from Centralia and the
vicinity of the airport met with Stephen township council
last week to protest the alleged change of the name of No.
9 SFTS Centralia to No. 9 SFTS Exeter. As a result a tele -
grant has been received by Stephen reeve Alonzo McCann
saying, " Name will not be changed. Postal address only
will be changed from Centralia to Exeter".
A fully equipped Red Cross ambulance will be in Exeter
Friday for inspection by the public.
A musical comedy, "Holiday inn" starring Bing Crosby
and l' red Astaire is playing at Leavitt's Theatre.
Girls and boys tagging Saturday for the China Relief
1' and did an excellent job, collecting $128. George Wong
of Wong's Cafe was more -than generous and bought a tag
from everyone who called.
A ma,jority.of Exeter businessmen have agreed to short-
er store hours. They will be 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m., four days a
week; 8.30 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays and, 8 30 a.m. to
11 p.m. Saturdays.

October 20, 1892 -The surplus for the Dominion govern-
ment for the first three months of the current fiscal filar is
$3,560540. Thus we have evidence of increased revenue,
reduced expenses and adherence to the lower taxes.
Mrs. George Upshall of Winchelsea notified police Sat-
urday that her purse had been picked out of her pocket at
the market. It contained $10 in cash and a doctor's pre-
scription.
John Harrison, son of Charles Harrison of Rodgerville
has been engaged to teach the senior department of Varna
Public School for $400 per annum.
Messrs. Cunningham and Boice of Crediton have both
purchased hotels in Clandeboye.
One can stay at the City Hotel in London, Ontario for $l
per dad.
Hunters will have to be careful of how they dispose of
their surplus game. The new Law makes it an offence for
anyone to sell or barter quail, snipe, wild turkey, wood-
cock or partridge for a period of two years. Store keepers
are also prohibited from selling these birds.

handed in at the clerk's office or li-
brary by no later than 9 p.m. Tues-
day, October 27 for point rating.
All those who hand in a sheet will
-receive a prise.
Costume parade
As a wrap-up of the week's activ-
ities, the Hensel! merchants are
sponsoring a dress -up parade with
the theme "It's a Small World" Sat-
urday, October 24 at 1 p.m.
Participants will be judged on
the following categories with priz-
es for first and second place' car,
toon character, best group/wagon,
clown, fancy dress, witch/ghost/
devil and best animal/pet costume.
The parade will begin at the Hen-
sall fire hall, travel east along
Queen St. to Albert, south on Al-
bert to King and west along King to
the town hall ending back at the
fire hall. In the event of ram, the
parade will be held indoors at the
fire hall. .
Every parade needs two kinds of
people -- spectators and partici-
pants, so get involved.
Scary boo night
It's been reported that the local
OPP detachment is investigating
several inquiries into strange go-
ings on at the old Hedden House at
82 Brock St. Rumor has it the
building is really haunted.
Those brave enough can see tor
themselves October 29 and 30.
from 7-9 p.m., as the village hosts
its annual haunted house extrava-
ganza.
A lot of volunteer work goes on
behind the scenes of this event, and
if last year's presentation is any m-
chcauon of things to come, it's an
evening you won't want to miss

seniors meet

HENSALi._. - The Hensall Sen-
iors met at the home of Evelyn
Flynn for the October meeting
President Irene Blackwell
opened the meeting with a poem.
"Rhythm of the Season". "0 Cana-
da" was sung followed by the
Lord's Prayer.
Evelyn Flynn and Jeanette Turn-
er will be attending the Mensal'
Service Club Workshop on Octo-
ber 20. The theme for 1992 is
"Helping you helps us."
The Hensall Seniors will bc call-
ing their group "The Sunset Sen-
iors' . A committee was named to
look tor a new meeting place.
The Christmas dinner will bc ca-
tered at the United Church.
