annexation
court battle
LONDON - Middlesex
County has decided to cut• its
losses and concentrate on a po-
litical fight against London an-
nexation after spending nearly
S150,000 on legal fees and court
costs.
As reported in the Parkhill Ga-
zette, county council made the
decision to avoid further legal
costs.
Council believes the best route
is to fight the annexation legisla-
tion when an all -party commit-
tee holds public hearings at
Queen's Park following the sec-
ond reading of Bill 75 later this
year.
Municipal Affairs Minister
Dave Cooke wants the legisla-
tion in place by January 1, 1993,
which would give London an ad-
ditional 61,000 acres, tripling
the city's size.
Middlesex County and its
member municipalities have
made a counter offer of 24,000
acres.
