During last Monday's regular
meeting of the Huron County
Board of Education, Rotary Club
chairman Don Prowse presented
the board with a cheque for over
S18,0(X) to help fund the new ele-
vator lift installed • to meet the
needs of the physically challenged
at South Huron District High
School.
"Josh Watson of Exeter came to
one of our meetings and gave a fine
presentation," said Prowse. "After
we heard his story, we felt we had
to help."
And they did so in near record
time. Within the short spare of six
months, the club put together chari-
table events and miraculously
raised the $18,0(X). The majority
of the cash was raised in connec -
tion with a celebrity roast held at
Oakwood Inn, in which the club

Blue Water Rest Home news
ZURICH - Last Tuesday morning was any mothers' or teachers'
dream. Thirty-five children from the Grade five class at St. Boniface
School appeared quietly in anticipation of meeting their buddy for the
year at Blue Water Rest Home. Cathy Shantz, Home Adjuvant, their
teacher Ms. Suplat and parent volunteers Debbie Overholt and Brenda
Koehler introduced the children to their resident buddy.
Some residents received special buddies. Loftus Denoinme was
matched with his great nephew Joy Denomme; Adeline Denomy with
her great niece Pamela Regier; Theresa Ducharme with her great grand-
daughter Amanda McKinnon; -Noel La Porte with his -great grand-
daugther Ardone La Porte and Mary Romaniszyn with a cousin Andrea
Becker.
Each child spent time conversing with their newly acquired buddy
and took a tour of the rest home fascilities. For a mother of four, it was
hard to believe 35 children could be so well disciplined, so quiet and
polite.
Tuesday evening the home auxiliary's "Swinging Seniors" entertained
the residents with some fancy toe -tapping music. Walter Noels, An-
drew Rau, Jack Simnons, Ralph Stephenson and Adam Wilson kept the
residents in good spirits and Mary Lou Denommc read poems of "Re-
tirement" and "What Do You Sec", followed by a light lunch.
Wednesday afternoon the residents gathered in the auditorium for af-
ternoon tea. A warm refresher on a cool autumn day, and plenty of
conversation to go around.
Thursday morning the home was visited by JBS Health care Products
and the residents went on a shopping spree. New blouse's, dresses, trou-
sers, slippers and those othcr necessities were picked out, tried on, and
fitted for all the special occasions in the future.
Pastor Stephen Alles, St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Zurich was in
charge of Chapel Service. Thursday afternoon. Father Peter Hayes cele-
brated mass.
Friday afternoon Glen Thiel took residents on a bus ride down the
Brunson Line to Dashwood, checked out the pier at Grand Bend, and
followed the lake back up to SL Joseph. With the beautiful weather the
past two weeks, no icebergs were reported afloat.
Friday evening the bingo cards were once more placed face up for an-
other round of lady luck.
Mac Davidson, BWRH resident, is spending a few days at South Hu-
ron Hospital, Exeter.
Oriole Harvey, BWRH Apartments, is spending the Thanksgiving
weekend with her sister Mary Caton, brother Thompson Robinson and
families at Picton.
Beatrice Rader, BWRH Apartments, is enjoying her turkey with her
daughter Catherine Zurbrigg and husband Claire at Kitchener.
Sunday morning the auditorium was filled with the sounds of music
as the adult Sunday school class form Zurich Mennonite Church pre-
sented the residents with a lovely selection of songs for the festive day
of Thanksgiving.
Lucan council rejects
30 minute parking idea
LUCAN - A request from a local
business to establish a 30 minute
parking zone on Main street, near
the public library has been denied
by council.
Taking into consideration infor-
mation received from bylaw en-
forcement officer Stan Flood, coun-
cil agreed the move would be too
costly.
Flood said effective enforcement
would be impractical. He contin-
ued, " Upon receipt of a complaint
or a personal observation, a chalk
mark would have to be made on the
offending vehicle with the time not -

ed. Thirty minutes later this would
have to be checked again and a
ticket written if the vehicle is still
there and hasn't been moved."
The bylaw officer added, "This
would be a very time consuming
project anti as a part-time appoint-
ment, I don't believe the allowance
for such projects is reflected in the
remuneration package".
Council was unanimous in the de-
cision to deny the request and reeve
Tom McLaughlin concluded, 7This
would have to be done with some
regularity and we don't have the re-
sources to enforce it".
