Basketball teams
off to a good start
EXETER - All three of the South
Huron District High School girls
basketball teams are off to good
starts as they won their opening
Huron -Perth conference games on
Wednesday in Seaforth.
In a thrilling overtime victory,
the junior Panthers won 52-49 as
Heather Davies netted 12 points
and Candace Miller added 10. Both
the midget and senior teams also
won.
Monday afternoon in Exeter, both
the junior and senior squads made
it two in a row as the seniors, paced
by the 15 point performance of Sta-
cey Rader, beat Wingham's F.E.
Madhill 32-20 while the juniors
won 38-19.
Miller led the juniors with 13
points, nine of those in the second
half, while Davies added nine.
There was no midget game.
In exhibition action on Friday,
the junior Panthers beat Stratford
Central 31-28 as Karey Youmans
had 13 points. The seniors also beat
Central while the midgets were de-
feated.

A total of 13 Panthers travelled to
London on Thursday for the Clarice
Road meet which had 225 runners
compete.
Molly McClure had the best
South -Huron finish as the junior
was second in her division while
Sarah Battersby was 32nd and Jana
Webster, 53rd.
Rob Miller and Shawn McCurdy
ran for the junior boys while Carrie
Ducharme was 22nd in the senior
girls division.
Scott McDonald was the best
midget as he was 48th in a field of
83 followed by teammates Bryce
Hahn, Eric Hundey, Jeff DeBloek,
Steve Straw and Mike Schmidt.
At the recent Aylmer Relays,
McClure was first in junior girls
and in the boys A division, Dan
Vanderlaan was second and Mike
Coolman finished fourth.
In a meet in Toronto, McClure
was 16th; Vanderlaan, 27th and
Schmidt, 101st.
Upcoming: While the girls field
hockey team hosted Si Marys on
Tuesday, the giris basketball teams
head to Goderich Wednesday.

SUDBURY - Just Call Me Sam
captured his third consecutive On-
tario Sires Stakes victory of the
1992 harness racing season with a
win at Sudbury Downs Raceway on
Saturday, September 26. The three-
year-old pacing colt circled the
northern Ontario oval in 1:59 for
his ninth win in 30 starts.

Just Call Me Sam and the three-
year-old pacing COBS and geldings
will be at Windsor Raceway on
Sunday, October 11, with a total
purse of over $100,000 on the line.
