2923 Huron
Greg Pfaff received special recognition Thursday night as he
was honoured with the Canadian Decoration for 12 years of
service to 2923 Huron M'ddlesex Cadet Corps. Harvey Pfaff,
Greg's father, was invited to bestow the honour upon Greg,
and is shown here pinning his medallion.
Middlesex
Cadet Corps as
they not only witnessed a change in
command, but also took time to
honour one of their own at the Hu-
ron Park Rec Centre.
Commanding Officer Captain
Rick Helm stepped down after his
three-year tenure, having officially
served from October 27, 1989 until
October 1, 1992.
The incoming Commanding Offi-
cer is Allan Cottel, who served as a
cadet from November 10, 1983 un-
til January 31, 1988. He enrolled
in the Canadian Armed Forces Re-
serve on February 41, 1988.
According to Standards Officer
and Captain Greg Pfaff, the com-
manding officer is ideally someone
who has worked at all three major
positions within the corps.
"They should have been the train-
ing officer, the administrative offi-
cer and the 'supply officer'," said
Pfaff. "And they should have a
working knowledge of the corps."
In addition, the new commanding
officer must graduate from a cap-
tain qualification course. They
don't have to hold the rank of cap-
tain as of yet, but they must pass
the course.
For 2923, this was their sixth
change of command parade since
the inception of the area cadet
corps 18 years ago. Commanding
officer appointment is normally
made every three years in which
time the present commanding offi-
cer has his or her successor trained.
The reviewing officer for the pa-
rade was Captain Reg Thompson,
Officer Commanding the Regional
Cadet Detachment for the Western
Ontario Area.
Following the parade, Captain
Thompson made distinct note of
the dedication and achievements of
Pfaff, awarding him his Canadian
Decoration. The Canadian Decora-
tion is a special honour, bestowed
upon a member who through re-
serve or regular forces has provided
12 years of service.

to Pfaff by his father Harvey, one
of the original founders of the Hu-
ron Middlesex Cadet Corps, April
1, 1974.
Pfaff, a cadet from February 25,
1974 until August 22, 1979 retired

he achieved exceptional status in
many facets of cadet life, and one
of the highlights included earning
his wings in the cadet parachuting
course, probably the most elite of
cadet courses offered.
Pfaff enrolled in forces reserve
October 9, 1980, and was appoint-
