EXETER - Although they failed
to win a garne this year in the West-
ern Ontario Soccer League's second
division, The Exeter Centennials did
Manage five ties, including a 2.2
draw with visiting Petrolia en Sun-
day.
Playing with a man advantage all
game as Petrolia only had ,10
players, the Centennials offence got
rolling early as Ray Lewis missed a
chance as he broke down the right
side.
But a few minutes later centre
forward Charlie Wise convened a
corner kick arid it was 1-0. Petmlia
however - came right back and
scored two quick ones.
Centennials' Icftwinger Pete Hak-
vonrt raced down the left side and
boomed one past the Petmlia goal-
ie. All the goals came in thc first
half and thc sides played scoreless
in the second half.
"1 was really disappointed, espe-
cially after having so many chanc-
es," said Exeter player -coach Dick
Lord.
Chuck Walker could have put the
game out of reach but he missed
more than once including an open
netter inside the six-yard box.
which he deflected off the cros.sbar:
Lord said his team improved a lot
in the last four or five games.
"The spirit never let down it was
good. We had a full squad out to
practice last week."
The Centennials which arc trying
to put a team into an indoor league
in London for the winter had few
younger players on the team other
than Brent Rideout, Jamie Wulterk-
ens and Greg Lamport.
"We need the minor system to
start feeding the senior team," said
Lord.
