STAFFA - The Marion Ritchie
W.M.S. held a very successful si-
lent auction of perennials, baking
and crafts following their Septem-
ber meetiirl_gat Cromarty Church.
Maty' 'Elliott presided and
opened the meeting with a poem
on September, followed by a hymn
accompanied by Ruth Laing on the
piano.
Agnes Lamond led in the wor-
ship and read an article on break -
mg down barriers following the
unison reading from Luke 10, the
parable of the Good Samaritan.
Ten members answered the roll
call by naming a parable in the
Bible.
Edna Stoneman presided for the
business, when an invitation to at-
tend the October meeting of Cro-
marty's twinned group, Britton
Auxiliary was accepted. The meet -
mg will be held in Maitland Ter-
race, Listowel, on Wednesday Oc-
tober 14 at 8 p.ni.
Jean Carey read the minutes of
the August meeting and Mary Elli-
ott gave the treasurers report. A
hymn was sung and Peggy Ker-
slake presented the study on trade
in Japan, followed by a interesting
discussion .
Alice Gardiner gave a reading on
answers to prayer - Yes, No, or
Wait. Hymn 392 was sung and the
Lords Prayer in unison closed the
meeting.

Church service
THAMESROAD - In the ab-
sence of the Minister Rev. Jim All-
sop who has been attending Rural
Life Ministry at Stayner the past
week, Judith Parker was the leader
for the service.
The congregation read respon-
sively Psalm 107: 109. The choir
sang "0 For A Thousand
Tongues" accompanied by the or-
ganist Jean Hodgert.
The congregation sang the chil-
dren's hymn "Tell Me the Stones
of Jesus' and Janis Richardson told
the children a story.
Parker read the Scripture Lesson
Joel 2: 23-30 and Luke 16: 19-31.
Sharon Passmore gave the ser-
mon entitled "Responding to a
Generous God
Hilda Kellett gave a Presbytery

tended at Wroxeter last Tuesday.

Explorer year starts in Crediton
CREDITON - The fall season for
the Explorers group at Crediton
United Church starts next Tuesday
at the church at 4 p.m. Girls be-
tween the ages of eight and 10
years of age are eligible to attend.
Any girls wishing to join for the
first time should call Irene Haugh
at 234-6336 for more information.
Senior choir practice this week
will be held tonight, Wednesday at
8 p.m. at the church.
Subscriptions for the United
Church Observer should be submit-
ted to Irene Haugh by October 15.
The special group rate is 58.50 per
year.
Congratulations to the families
and friends of Melisa Lynn McLe-
od and Amanda Lynn Payne as
they were received into the church
through a Baptismal service, Sun-
day morning.
Ervin and Nola Ratz are to be
congratulated on celebration of
their 50th wedding anniversary on

nis or Ross Haugh. The dinner is to
be held on October 24 at the Grand
Bend Legion.

Dinner for U.C.W.
EXETER - A potluck dinner pre-
ceded the September meeting of
the U.C.W. afternoon unit.
Manan Dougall president, was in
charge of the meeting and read a
poern "Life begins at 80" after
which the purpose was repeated in
unison.
The minutes were read, roll call
taken and the treasurer's report giv-
en. Audrey McRoberts gave the
card report stating there are several
boxes of Christmas cards on hand.
Jean Murray thanked the ladies for
the many cards she received.
Poultry Congress at Amsterdam
Holland for a ween. There were
3,000 in attendance.
Best wishes to Jam Duncan who
has returned from the hospital.
