Last Tuesday [tight in Exeter, Exeter splits at OASA NORWICH - Saturday was a long day for the Exeter Imperials as the. played tour games at the Ontario Amateur Softball Association intermedi ate 'A' championships. Atter dropping the first game 3-2 to Belleville, the imperials easily hart dled Linwood 16-1. That was followed by a 6-0 win over Port Dover and then Exeter was eliminated by St. Marys following a 1-0 win for the Se- lects. Belleville 3. Exeter Z • The Imperials led 2-0 after the first inning as Dan Heywood walked, moved on Darren Neil's bunt single and scored on a wild pitch. Neil came home on DougCharlton's ground out. j xeter 1Linwood 1 Jeff Shipley and Charlton ripped home runs in the first inning as Exeter sent 11 batters to the plate and led 6-0. Graham Nesbitt connected with a pair of homers, one in the second and another in the fifth. Steve Neil had two singles and a fifth inning homer. j xeter 6.Port Dover 0 Hodgins and Charlton combined to toss a three -hit shutout. Heywood went 3 -tor -4 while Charlton also had a couple of hits. Exeter led 2-0 after the first inning. t. Marys .1. Exeter 0 The rivals locked up again and this time it was the Selects winning in the sixth inning as Steve Neeb singled moved on a couple of wild pitches and scored on Scou Shackleton's single. What proved to be a very excit- ing matchup in the third and final game between St. Pauls and Exeter saw the home team get on the board first when rightfielder Darren Neil tripled to left field and scored on Jeff Shipley's sacrifice fly. It was 2-0 for the Imperials when Shipley got on base in the third due to an error and eventually scored on Brian Noyes' single. Si Pauls got one back when the, imperials made two errors: Exeter pitcher Derwyn Hodgins tossed a no-hitter and struck out 20 including the last 12 batter, he faced. Sliding sate into home during Sunday's league final game was Sue Coates of Exeter.
