Mohawks face Blacles Sunday
LUCAN - There may not be a lot
of players in the Exeter Mohawks
camp, but coach -general manager
Dave Revington seems to be confi-
dent about this year's club.
The biggest question will be who
AMU between the pipes as Rick Pi-
kul has retired, Jeff Hill has a brok-
en finger and Paul Woolford is try-
ing out with the Aylmer Hornets.
However, Revington says he has
confidence in Trevor Hunter who
played Junior 'C' in New Hamburg
last year.
"I like him. I'm impressed with
tum."

Thursday night's
i
been a good spot for the Mohawks
to draw players from, especially
last year when big Scou Pfaff inadc
the move from junior to senior
hockey.
"He's a big strong guy that skates
well and he's got a year's experi
stick."
The highest scoring line in thc
Southern Counties Senior League
last year of cookie centre Craig Os-
ter, .Greg Snyder and the league t
loading scorer Joe Scherer are all
eapecfed to be back.
"He's (Oster) not a 100 percent.
he's trying out with Western," said
Reyiagson who said he expects Os-
ier.beck.
Thursday night in Loon, there
were only about 20 players on .the
ice but the lack of aueralancc
doesn't seem to bather Reviogton.

many to get to.
"It probably has a lot to do with
it," said Reviegion of theists prac-
tice time. "It's the .sante every

Never, never slap

1 did my weekly
scream at the television
Thursday night when 1
'watched Raghib Ismail of the
'ibronio Argonauts do the
"Rocket Stomp" on Andy
McVey's head in a recent Ca-
nadian football League game. (No this isn't like the Iekey
Shuffle).
The Rocket, who has been a saviour when it comes to
boosting attendance in the troubled league, agreed to donate
$10,000 to the Ontario Special Olympics.
This is what you call saving face.
The Argos wide receiver jumped high into the air and
kicked McVey in the head. CFL commissioner Larry Smith
gave Ismail the choice of either paying a $1,000 fine and be-
ing suspended a game or donating to a charity.
He chose the latter and a wise decision it is.
• With the donation to OSO, he doesn't have to go on the
Mord books as being 'fined' and he doesn't have to watch a
game from the stands.
In my opinion, Ismail should be kicked out of football.
Pigskin pushers compete in a game of controlled aggres-
sion. Once they get into kicking and shoving on the sidelines,
it makes us forget about thc good tackles and the hard blocks
on the field.
Professional sports have a way of taking care of their own.
Ismail should have been suspended indefinitely until the
league could hold a hearing and determine whether or not he
should be allowed to play again.
His act of hostility was no accident. While teammates were
lying on top of McVey, Ismail jumped in the air and came
down on McVey's head.
If that was to happen in hockey and a player was caught
with his stick in another guy's ear, not only would there be a
fine but a suspension; no matter who it was.
1 agree Ismail has rejuvenated football in Toronto and
brought the public eye to focus a little more on the CFL but
that doesn't mean the league should pamper him.
Commissioner Smith felt $ 1,000 would be a stiff financial
fine on this guy. And how much is Ismail making?
Smith said Ismail's behaviour was "unacceptable ' So he
gets slapped on the wrist and told not to do it again. Hell do it
again but it won't be documented on video and broadcasted
across North America.
On Saturda), Ismail suited up against the B.C. Lions.
You can bet your Rocket Stomping feet Smith said Ismail
could play against the Lions because of the panic situation
that team is in. The Lions are on the verge of going belly up
so bringing in Ismail might just get the odd Vancouver fan to
home out to the game.
Ismail signed a huge contract ($18 million for four years)
and if he was to be suspended it would leave egg on the face
of the Argo owners Bruce McNall, John Candy and Wayne
Oretzky. Remember now, you don't make superstars look bad
and these guys are about as big as they come.
.Bad publicity is better than no publicity and the CFL needs
.All it can get.
No doubt there will be just as many Argos fans supportive
of the Rocket as there are those like myself who say ban the
bum.
Smith and the CFL are banking on those who will go to the
stadium just to see if the Rocket will make a jackass out of
himself again.
Sports nowadays has very little to do with what goes on on
the field. It's market the players. Not the team, but showcas-
ing the players.
When George Bell was with the Toronto Blue Jays, he
made himself look like an idiot and I believe that brought
people into the park
I wonder how many young football players out titer, the
ones who have adopted the spiking of the football after a
touchdown and the high and low fives, willnow take up a
Awe craze called the Rot;ket Stomp.
