Appreciation dinner for Zurich Fair

ZURICH - All volunteers who
helped out at the recent Zurich Pau
are welcome to attend a socia[ and
appreciation barbecue at the home
of Clare and Margaret Deichert,
RR I Zurich, Wednesday, Septem-
ber 23 at 7 p.m. Bring lawn chairs.
Marriage encounter
Any couples wishing to make a
marriage encounter weekend at the
Michaelite House in Melrose, On-
tario are to phone Ray and Janice
Hartman at 236-3483 for more in-
formation. The next one will ' be
held from October 16-18.
Brownies
The Zurich Brownies held _their
registration at St. Boniface School
Tuesday. If anyone missed this the
can phone Deb Overholt at 236-
4700 as soon as possible. The first
meeting will be Tuesday, Septem-
ber 29 from 6:45-8 p.ni.
Beavers, cubs, scouts
Any boys wishing to jots bea-
vers, cubs or scouts are to sign up
on registration night, Wednesday.

was held Sunday at St. Paul's, Kirk -
ton with the Rt. Rev. Robert C.

Bay acung as Preacher and Cele-
brant tor the Holy Eucharist and
Confirmation service. A time • of
fellowship followed in the church

There will be no service at St.
Patrick's Sunday. September 20. St.
Thomas, Granton will celebrate
their Harvest Thanksgiving service
at 11:00 a.m.
St. Patrick's Harvest service to be
September 27 at 11:00 am.
The St. Patrick's ACW held their
September meeting at the home of
Nadene Bedell on Tuesday evening
with 1I members present. Viola
Atkinson and Margaret Carroll
were programme leaders.
Members Prayer and General
Thanksgiving in unison and

School were led by Betty Johnson
and Viola Atkinson. Margaret Car-
roll read the scripture reading 2nd

Hazel Davis gave reports on gar-
age and bake sales with proceeds to
our Diocesan Apportionment Rose

Congratulauons to Harry and Ei-
leen Carroll on their 60th wedding
anniversary. An open house Is to

Voice of Leo
The Zurich Lions Club held their
first meeting for the fall at the Do-
minion Tavern last Wednesday.
President Dave Heimrich chaired
the meeting with 12 Lions present.
The club will begin holding two
meetings per month, the first and
third Mondays. They will meet
again September 21 at 7 p.m.
Zurich Bulldogs
The Zurich Bulldogs ball team
spent the weekend in Niagara Falls
taking part in the Ontario Champi-
onships. The group won a game
and lost two others.
Personals
Peggy and Dale Routley were
blessed with the arrival of their first
child, a girl, Kaitland Elizabeth.
Deb and Mark Regier welcomed
the arrival of their fourth child Cur-
tis Mark.
Becky and Larry North were
blessed with the arrival of their
fourth child, -Levi Joseph Wayne.
Three babies were baptized at St.
Boniface on Sunday by Father Pe-
ter Hayes; Amanda Marie Allen,
daughter of Steve and Denise Al-
len. Graham Terrence Bedard, son
of Terry and Linda Bedard, and
Melanie Magdalena Martens,
daughter of Andrew and Linda
Martens.
Jeff Webster and Kelly Kirk were
married recently. The bride is the
daughter of Bob and Betty Kirk of
Zurich.
Intal Earle and Mary Sheridan
were reallatly married. Earle is an
employee at the South Huron Vete-
rinary Clinic in Zurich.
Earl and Doreen Oesch enjoyed
spending a week in Lancaster,
PennsylrMia at Black Rock Retreat
with several, friends fmnt Sunny
Breeze Resort in Florida.
Jim Simpson of Zurich was the
lucky winner of 52,096 in the bingo
bonanza.

Clarence and Beattie Geoffrey
are celebrating their 52nd wedding;
anniversary. Best wishes for a
speedy recovery to Beattie who is a
patient in Victoria Hospital.

will be celebrating their 49th wed-
ding anniversary September 18.
Greg and Deb Thiel and family
spent the holiday weekend with his
mother, Reta Thiel. •
Pat and Barb O'Connor spent last
week visiting her mother Geraldin,
'Kane.
Jerome and Helene Ducharmc re-
turned home Sunday after a nine
day visit with their children in
Sherwood Park, Alberta. They
didn't have time for much sight-
seeing, but they did visit with
daughter Tracy and husband
Wayne Lockhart and were ac-
quainted with their new twin grand-
children, Justin and Jenna.
Victor and Irene Hartman spent
the weekend in Leamington at a
Gerard family reunion. While there
they stayed with her sister, Leah
LaPorte.
Two Ankh valantwar fInvffghters were presented with 20 -year service medals Monday eve-
ning, along with certificates of recognition from the Governor-General. Making the presentation
were Blalse Ducharme (left, Hay Township), Gerald Shantz (Hay), to Bob Memer and to chief Ai
Brokenshlre. Also helping with the presentation were Keith Semple (Zurich councillor and fire -
board chairman) and Jack Dunn (Stanley Township). The group are standing in front of the fire
department's new emergency vehicle, which was also officially presented to the department
Monday. The 1979 truck was bought for about $12,000 and was needed to help transport
equipment to fires and other emergencies.
Zurich WI discuss education
ZURICH - On Monday Septem-
ber 7 the Zurich WI held their reg-
ular monthly meeting at the Hay
Twp. hall, with nine members and
one visitor present.
The topic Education proved in-
teresting and created a good dis-
cussion among the members.
The business meeting showed
the Bean festival booth was very
successful this year. At the Zurich
Fall Fair the WI received a prize
for its display (honey being the
theme).
The Huron County Rally will be
held in Brussels on October 5. The
London and District Convention
will be held in Ailsa Craig on Oc-
toher 14. Each Institute represent-
ed there is asked to bring an article
suitable for a craft display.
Margaret Hess, Kay Hay, Mattie
Smith were members who cele-
brated birthdays since the last
meeting.
A tasty variety of fresh fruits
were served along with fruit bread
and the meeting adjourned.
