What
do
you
think?
Grand Bend?

Judy Mason
Gables Tavern
"Our summer's been
great. The weather has
been a factor
..we've had great
weekends...but during
the week business has
been down
...it's not Grand Bend.
It's a combination
of the weather and the
economy."
Jay Shervill
Barefoot Pedlar
"For us our business
was equal with last
year..it was a fairly good
summer."
Shervill said that
being able to rent vide-
os and sell magazines
to rainy day customers
was a definite
advantage when they
weren't in looking for
suntan lotions.
Annette Stover
Saga Bound Books
Stover agreed with store
owner Luise Hoffman,
who said that books
was definitely the right
business to be in for the
summer of 1992 with
all its rain.
"Our sales are up," said
Stover.
"Of course you notice
businesses are down
during the summer."
James Archibald
Archie's Beach Company
"When all's said and
done it hasn't been
bad...you just sell mine
sweatshirts than
t-shirts...You know Jt1Re
sucked sewer water
though.
"The kids don't have the
money. The kids are
out of work."
But Archibald said a
"sale mentality" has
kept businesses alive.
"I don't think it's as bad
as people say."
Scott Bogart
Humphries Beach Wear
"The summer was
down, not the economy
so much...it was mainly
the weather
.,.you don't get the
people coming up for
the day. You get the
cottages though.
"It wasn't a total write-
off, but it's not like I'm
going to spend my
winter in Florida...not
that I do anyway."
