New road na/PosS

service
WYOMTNG - Lambton County
residents Inlay be able to loots for-
ward to a 911 emergency telephone
service in future years, bet neral
residents will likely have lo get,
used to a lot numbering system and
new tunes for their conoeesien
reads.
Presently, only Sarnia and Point
Edward have 911 service in the
i A ieriort from colony warden
William Baton points out that be-
fore Bell Canada can be eeoour-
eged to install a 911 system in
Lambioa, there mast be a consis-
•sent means of idendtylag properties
in the rural areas. Traditional con-
cession sad tot numbers often
prove confusing to emergency vehi-
cle operators wfio may be unfamil-
iar with road patterns, and because
concession and lot numbers can be
repeated from township to town-
ship.
Bilton said a warden's Special
committee on Municipal Address-
ing has been looking at renaming
many sidemads, concessions, and
street names in order to make the
pattern consistent across the
county.
In addition to the rood names,
municipal vomiters will be assigned
every 10 metres. Par example, Bo-
sanquet Township properties can be
expected to have as many as five
digits assigned to them so that that
number can either be given out to
the dispatcher, or be automatically
recorded on an "entranced 911" sys-
tem.
Plympton Township evil,' serve as
a pilot to install a toad nate and
number systern by this year, and
the rest of the canny can follow in
1993. Once the system is in place,
then the county can approach Bell
Carrots with the confidence they
are fully prepared for 911 emergen-
cy Service.
One of the options being consid-
ered to encourage Bell to support
911 service is a; Cost recovery pro-
gram, adding a possible universal
user fee to telephone bills of about
40e a month.
