Getting a face full of water didn't seem to matter as these young future firefighters took part
in a few water games during the Hensall Community Picnic Sunday afternoon. There were
many activities for the family including gold fish racing, a picnic and baseball.
'Festival of Flowers' is held
KIRKTON - The Kirkton Horti-
culture Society's Festival of Flow-
ers was held on August 18 with a
large crowd in attendance and
many exhibits.
Shirley Barton of St. Marys
played music while everyone was
viewing the lovely flowers.
The program opened with sing-
ing 0 Canada, and President
Madeline Parkinson welcomed
everyone and read a poem "Song
of Summer". She announced that
there would be a bus trip to the
Leamington area on September 30.
Jean Ratcliffe introduced the
speaker who was Shirley Robinson
from St. Thomas. She judged the
many entries during the afternoon.
She gave tips on flower arranging,
and with Barbara Strickland of St.
Thomas made four lovely arrange -
menus, which four lucky people
won as door prizes.
Marjorie Anthill thanked both la-
dies for their presentation which
was enjoyed by all. Anna Peterson
brought greetings from the district
and announced that the Annual
Meeting will be held in Stratford
on October 24.
Jean Ratcliffe announced the
awards and Doris Batten handed
out the prizes.
The winners were: juniors under
1 - 1st, Marilou Hern, 27 points,
2nd Jared French, 18 points, 3rd -
Ian Weston, 14 points, 4th - Bren-
da Elford, 3 points. Juniors 13 - 15
1st - Andrea French, 33 points,
2nd - Kathryn Hem, 11 points, 3rd
- Steven Murray, 6 points. Contest-
ants 16 -18:: 1st, Elizabeth French,
25 points. Adults: 1st, Josie Ryck-
Bowling set to
resume in Zurich

ZURICH - The ladies bowling league is all set to begin Monday, Sep-
tember 14. Bowlers are in for a treat as the lanes have been renovated and
enlarged by owners Tony and Marlene Bedard. Bowlers are still needed
and can join the league by calling 236-4923 or 236-4741.
Farewell dinner
A farewell dinner was held at the Mennonite fellowship hall recently in
honour of interim pastors Paul and Grace Brunner, who have moved to
Hesston, Kansas to minister at's, college there. The couple have spent the
past year in Zurich.
Mites baseball
Any girls from the 'All Mites' ball team are asked to return their shirts to
Cathy Overholt.
Personals
Beth Sweeney spent a few days visiting her family last week having just
returned from a two-month trip to Europe. The daughter of Jerome and
Cannel Sweeney spent time with friends travelling to France, England,
Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Rome, Italy, Portugal, Greece,
and Spain. She also had the pleasure of attending the Olympic Games in
Barcelona.
Renee Sweeney spent the past week in Kitchener visiting with friends,
Missy McDonald and family.
Ned Francis and Melissa Beer (nee Gelinas) were married at St. Boni -
[ace Church in Zurich by Father Hayes Saturday.
Michelle Gelinas of Burnaby. B.C. returned home utter spending a
month in Zurich with parents Mozart and Marie Gelinas Sr. While here
she enjoyed the CNE, the Bean Festival and attended twin sister Melissa's
wedding.
Dan and Carrie Eybergen and girls Tiffany and Brittany returned home
to Acworth, Georgia after a month vacation in the Zurich area.
Richard and Cathy Breakey of Edmonton returned home after visiting
with his parents Ken and Dorothy Breakey in Zurich and her relatives in
London.
Welcome to town Tom and Anne Dixon and children who have moved
from London.
Welcome home to Father Hayes who has been away the past month.
Farewell to Father Patrick Cope from England who spent this month at
the parish. Members enjoyed listening about his duties back home in his
ministry with the youth and prison inmates.
Get well wishes to Beattie Geoffrey and Sliver Bedard who are patients
at Exeter hospital.
Brian Desjardine spent a few days in hospital in London last week.
Birthday greetings to Cheryl Gelinas, Tiffany Eybergen, Karen and Ka-
thy Schenk.
A 50th birthday party was held at the couage of Bernie Denomme last
Saturday. As well, Bernie and Annette Denomme celebrated their anni-
versary.
Wendy Nye and son Joshua are spedingaholidays with her parents Earl
and Doreen Oesch and family. Her sister Judy Rose and son Kristopher
also visited.
Bean Festival visitors with Marion Becker were her sister, Bev and
Dave Stringer and family.
Therese Stark spent last week in Windsor visiting her son Dave and
Carolyn Stark along with three grandchildren from Godexich. They also
called on her brother Stance and Vera Bedard.
A gathering was held at the Klopp house last Wednesday evening to cel-
ebrate the birthdays of Jaamette, Carrie and Tiffany Eybergen. Carmel
Sweeney. List Miller. Jame Oesch and Tim Klopp.
Martin and Cheryl Gelinas and children spent Wednesday at the African
Lion Safari.
John and Leslie Jeffrey and family spent a few days in the United States
last week.
Visitors from HOUand at the home of Case and Annie Van Raay have

Several from the community enjoyed a bus trip to Canada's Wonderland
Saturday sponsored by the Zurich Optimist Club.

St. Patrick's celebrates
communion and baptism

SAINTSBURY - St. Patrick's cel-
ebrated the Service of Holy Com-
munion on Sunday, August 29 and
Holy Baptism when Jennifer Doro-
thy Lynn, daughter of Jim and
Joanne Hendrickson of St. Marys
was baptized. Grandparents Carl
and Mary Jefferies are Godparents.
Sunday, September 6 Si Patricks
will celebrate the Service of Morn-
ing Prayer at 8:30 a.m. Readings to
Ezekiel 33:1-11, Philemon 1-20,
Responsive Reading, Psalm 94:12-
22, the Holy Gospel Si Luke
14:25-33.

United church next Sunday, Sep-
tember 6 will be held at 11:30. Sun-
day School will be held at the same
time which is a change from other
years with a film and short gather-
ing. Children of all ages are wel-
