Bowlers, Seward bring home gold from Games
SCARBOROUGH - Several
members of the Beeler lawn
Bowling Club brought home med-
als from the -Ontario Summer
Games-. held on the weekend in
Scarbourgh.
In girls pairs, Jaek1yn Wright and
Laura Pearson captured the gold
medal as they came up with wins
of 29-7, 14-12, 10-9 and 20-11 in
the final.
The boys pairs duo of Shawn and
Allan McPalls also struck gold as
they won 18-10, 12-11 and a tie-
breaker 5 -4 -before taking the final
16-12.
-Andrea Weigand won a gold
medal in girls singles competition
as she won by sabres of 21-14, 7-5
and 7-3. Weigand, Wright and
Pearson teamed to win the !maze
in trebles with Scones of 14-9 and
39-7.
The Exeter bowlers were
coached by Peter and Gloria

Also at the Summer Games,
Luke Seward of Lieury was first in
archery. He has a busy schedule
ahead of him a4 he travels to Cale -

Anyone can bring sporting items
such as hockey and ringette equip`

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
There is no admission and those
selling are asked to bring their own

Stuart shoots 169
CAMBRIDGE - Ryan Stuart of
the Ironwood Golf Course shot a
. two round total score of 169 at the
recent Optimists Golf Tournament
held at the Cambridge Golf and
Country Club. Stuart finished 13th
overall in the boys 15-17 division.

Junior hockey camps set to open

EXETER - It may still be sunny outside but the three
local Junior 'D' hockey teams have got the wheels in
motion for the 1992 -93 -season.

The Exeter Hawks open their training camp in Hen-
son on Thursday. September 10 at 8:30 p.m. They'll go
again the next night at 8 p.m. and again on the 13th.

"Its time consuming, I'm trying to book exhibition
games," said Pratt.
Exeter has four eligible ovaagers in detenseman
Larry Lewis. and forwards Doug Clark. Scott Schindel

on Sunday morning. She used a
six iron on tie 99 -yard 13th
hole.

tember 2, when they open their training; camp at the
Lucan Community Center.
Without a doubt, the biggest question mark around
this team will be who will be between the pipes.
"It will be the best guy who shows up at camp. We
have no idea. Obviously Bob won't be back," said Ken
Needham of Bob Szabo.

camp Tuesday. September 8 at 8:30 p.m. in Thodford.
The camp continues on Wednesday and 'Thursday at
8:30 p.m. Over 8t; players have been invited to the
gyp.
Imperials win 7-0, eliminate Magnums
MILVERTON - It wok eight innings to get going,
but once they did the Lacier imperials put some big
numbers on the board here Friday night.
Connecting for tree hits in the eighth frame and
three more in ninth, the Imperials downed the Milver-
ton Magpums 7-0 to win the best -of -three South Porth
Men's Fastball League playoff series.
As of press time. the Impeials were awaiting the
winner of Si. Paula and St. Agatha.
Friday night in Milverton.Exeter was shutdown by
Magnwuns' pitcher Darwin Erb but they came to life in
a big way in the eighth.
Graham Nesbitt led off with a single w left field and
moved to second on a wild pitch. Doug Charlton carne
up with a base hit and advanced on a passed ball.
With none out, catcher Brian Noyes hit a two-ewt
single which was all the Imperials would need. Piach
runner Jim Allison moved to third on Derwyn Hod-
gins' sscrifrce bunt teen Steve Neil was safe at fust
due to a Milverton error.
Meter outfielder Sandy Hyde sten ripped his second
hit of the night, this enc a base hit up the middle to pad
the visitors lead to 3-0.
The Imperials showed some excellent defense up the
middle in the bouum of the eighth when second base-
man Mike Deajarchnc went far to his left to catch a pop
fly and shortstop Dan Heywood went all tie way be-
hind second base and one -hopped it to Charlton.
With one out in the ninth, Graham Nesbitt led off
with a double and Charlton was safe after he struck out
but beat out a throw off of apussed ball.
Noyes walked and that liodgios punched a single up
the middle to score two runs. After Leejardine walked,
Sandy Hyde singled to make the score 7-0. Hyde bad
one of his best night's of the year at the plate, going 3 -
fur -4.
Exeter hit.tbe ball hard all night as Heywood started
the game with a long hit that was caught at the fence
and Nesbitt took one deep to the sante spot in the third.
Milverton threatened to score in the fourth when
Don Leis doubled with one out but he was left strand-
ed.
Hodgins gave ;up just five hits on the night while
striking out 15 including fanning the side in the fust
inning. Erb had 11 strike outs.

year-old pacing colt division to col-
lect 54,819.

Exhibition game ,
EXETER - On Sunday at 2 p.m.,
London Marconi will travel to Ex-
eter to take on the Exeter Thunder
under -14 soccer team in an exhibi-
tion contest. The game will be
played at the Canner's Field.
Marconi, an under -13 team are
currently undefeated in their own
league play. Exeter lost a recent
game to Marconi, 2-0.
Late goal wins
EXETER - The clash between
Exeter 1 and Exeter Ti in the recent
league soccer tournament saw Dave
Farquhar take a pass from Rob
Lynn to give Exeter 11 the champi-
onship.
Exeter I went undefeated all sea-
son hut it was Exeter II winning the
title Great defensive efforts by
goalies Bryon Ellenngton and
Steve Hern.
