Although all the totals are r not yet in, organizers feel the event drew close to 15,000 visi- tors. "We haven't really added things up yet, but we sold approxi- mately 4,400 dinners," said Doug Erb, 1992 Bean Festival Chairman. Erb said that usually about a third of the crowd partake in the dinners. The chefs cut an extra 500 pork, chops this year, and all to - Times-Advooete, August 26, 1992 Pae 11 gether went through a whopping 2,700 lbs. "It was incredible," said Erb. "The crowd lined up for the pancake breakfast and as soon as it was over got right back in line for the bean dinners." The combination of local bands, horseshoe.pitching, midway and various stage acts proved a crowd pleaser, as did Dr. Wallace's Frog Jumping Contest. The car show was equally successful, with over 480 automobiles registered for the event. A meeting wilt be held next Wednesday to put the final wraps on this season and make improvements to fine tune the program for the 28th Zurich Bean Festival next year. Local musical group Serious Business was on hand to entertain the many visitors to the Bean Festival. Zurich Seniors go on picnic By Gertie Fleischauer ZURICH - Due to inclement weather last Wednesday, the Zunch Diners Picnic was held indoors at McKay Centre, Goderich. A visit to the museum was en- joyed. A picnic lunch was served to fifty diners, including guests from Hen - sell, prepared by Dawne Erb, Tani my Antaya, and Sally Lawton. The beach -wear contest was won by Genie Fleischauer and Tammy An- taya as a Mermaid. Bingo was played. Ina Neeb won the full -house prize. Games of eu- chre, solo .and shuffleboard fol- lowed. Bean Festival is once again a success By Carvel Sweeney ZURICH - Once again the annual Bean Festival was a success thanks to all the volunteers who took pan. The lucky winner of the quilt from the auxiliary at the Blue Wa- ter Rest Home was Paula Laporte of Zurich. The St. Boniface CWL quilt was won by Steve Mattson of London, while the quilt shade by St. Peter's CWL went to Josie Thuss of RR 1 Bayfield. Second prize of a baby quilt was won by Janie Babcock of Listowel. St. Boniface Council Knights of Columbus draws were won by Mine Wierwna of RR3 Parkhill, $100; Karen Dalton of Richmond Hill, pine chest, and George Smith of Stratford, a treasure chest.
