Ladies Auxiliary meet at Bluewater Rest Home

ZURICH - The ladies auxiliary
of the Bluewater Rest Home held
its monthly meeting last Tuesday
with a very good attendance.
A musical program was enjoyed
by both the auxiliary and residents,
followed by a delicious lunch.
The meeting began with 25 mem-
bers present and two guests. After
reports were given, the ladies were
thanked for their help at recent
functions held at the rest home
such as, the family supper and bake
sale.
A dozen cushions were pur-
chased for the nursing care ward
for the residents. They were made
in the Hobby Shop.
The main topic of the meeting
Exeter Playground marked the end of another season Friday
afternoon as area businesses Value Mart, EMA, Grammies
Pizza and New Orleans Pizza supplied lunch for the annual
goodbye party at the South Huron Recreation Centre. Above,
Adam Jackson bites into a slice of pizza.
Two Gentlemen of Verona
opens at Stratford Theatre
STRATFORD - The Two Gen-
tlemen of Verona, William Shake-
speare's comedy of friendship and
betrayal, opened at the Stratford
Festival's Tom Patterson Theatre
on Saturday, August 8 and contin-
ues, in repertory, through Septem-
ber 20.
Directed by Marti Mandell, who
also directed this seasons ac-
claimed production of Love's La-
bour's Lost, The Two Gentlemen
of Verona tells the tale of Valen-
tine and Proteus as they compete
for the love of Silvia, the Duke of
Milan's daughter. Deception, dis-
guise and treachery unfold - most
of it under the watchful eyes of
Launce the clown and hir. ill-
mannered dog Crab - until friend-
ship triumphs and. the two friends
are reconciled. Designed by head
of Design Debra Hanson, The Two
Gentlemen of Verona features mu-
sic composed by Keith Thomas
and lighting designed by Kevin
Fraser.

This production includes all 14
members of the Festival's Young
Company. Scott Fisher and Neil In-
gram will be alternating in the role
of Proteus, Fisher's debut perfor-
mance will be on Saturday, August
8, followed by Ingram on Wednes-
day, August 12. The Two Gentle-
men of Verona also features Murray
Furrow as Speed, Marcel Jeannin as
Thurio, Yanna McIntosh as Lucetta,
Daria Martel as Silvia, Mervon
Mehta as Valentine, Michael Simp-
son as Launcc and Helen Taylor as
Julia. Other Young Company mem-
bers appearing in The Two Gentle-
men of Verona are Tom Allison,
James Binkley, Alain Goulem, Scott
Nichol and Dathan B. Williams. Mi-
chael Simpson's dog Winter makes
his stage debut in the role of Crab.
In addition to the members of the
Young Company this production
also features Lewis Cordon as The
Duke of Milan and Ian White as An-
tonio.
was the plan for the booth at the
up -corning Bean Festival on Satur-
day, August 22. Fifty women were
.willing to volunteer and work sell-
ing home-made baking and jams.
Also, quilt ticket money and
stubs are to be returned to either
Martha Ducharme or Rose Regier
(Lee).
The birthday party was held for
-the residents yesterday by the
Thames Road United Church la-
dies.
The next meeting will be on Sep-
tember 1 at 7 p.m. President, Car-
mel Sweeney and secretary, Ina
Neeb will be attending the annual
convention held in Toronto in Sep-
tember.

Congratulations to Curtis and
Mary Gingerich on the occasion of
their 50th Wedding Anniversary
that was celebrated on Sunday with
open house at the Mennonite
Church with many friends and rela-
tives attending and all their family.
The couple's actual anniversary is
October 3.
Congratulations to Duward and
Linda McAdams on their 25th
Wedding Anniversary.
Renee Sweeney spent last week
on holidays in Dorchester visiting
at the home of Aunt Cindy and Un-
cle Marc Gallium and cousins.
Best wishes for a speedy recov-
ery is extended to Clare Bedard
who is a patient at St. Joseph's hos-
pital in London.
Sincere sympathy to the family
of the late George Ducharme Jr.
who passed away suddenly last
Wednesday.
Harvey and Reabum Gelinas of
London spent this past week visit-
ing with Maurice and Gert Durand
at the Maple Woods Apartments.
Many visitors from far away
places are presently on holidays
with their families on Bismark
Street.
At the home of Jerome and Car-
mel Sweeney -is their daughter Car-
rie Eyhergen and two girl's from
Acworth, Georgia. Her husband
Dan is soon to join them.
At the home of Gerry Kane is
daughter Anne and Bob Besozzi
and son Steven from San Francis-
co, California.
At Elizabeth Grainger's home is
her daughter Cathy and Doug Faw-
ceu and family from Sherwood
Park, Alberta.
Visitors at the home of Curtis
and Mary Gingerich are their
daughter Sandi and Leo McCarron
and two sons from Hesston, Kan-
sas.
Saintsbury by H. Davis
SAINTSBURY - St. Patrick's
Church was tastefully decorated
with trees and miniature lights for
the bridal shower on Saturday hon-
ouring Lauralec McDonald daugh-
ter of Howard and Sandra McDo-
nald of Lucan who is to be married
next month. The guests were wel-
comed by Aunt Joyce Sovereign
followed by a reading by Bonnie
Kooy, cousin of the bride. After
many beautiful gifts, the bride
thanked everyone and a social time
folldwed.
On Sunday August 16, St. Pat-
nck's will celebrate the Holy Com-
munion service tenth Sunday after
Pentecost at 8:30 a.m.

The community of Saintsbury
was saddened last week with the
sudden death of friend and relative
John (Jack) R. Dickins of Exeter.
A service was held Thursday at
the C. Haskett and Son funeral
home in Lucan with officiam Rev.
Beverley Wheeler. Dickins was a
member of St. Patrick's Church.
Legion prepares for
second chili cookoff
EXETER - Shell be a hot time in
the old town Saturday, September
12, as the Exeter Legion prepares
to host the 2nd Annual Exeter Le-
gion Chili Cookoff.
Plans are well underway and ac-
cording to chairman Dave Grundy,
the event will be even better than
last year with over 1,000 people
expected.
"We've set a limit of 30 teams
this year on a fust come, first
served basis," said Grundy. "And
we've also added more entertain-
ment and things for the kids."
Bluegrass and Country bands
have been booked for the afternoon
to help participants 'free tune' their
recipes, while the day's events will
be capped off by a dance scheduled
for the evening.
All preparations oust be done on
site in the Legion perking lot, and
participants can begin setting up at
8 a.m. The cooking period will be

Three preliminary judging tables
will be set up, with the top four chi-
lies from each table going on to the
final table. Competition is the
name of the game, and prizes will
not only be awarded for best chili,
but also for best decorated chili
booth and most entertaining chili
team.
As last year, spectators may pur-
chase a tasting kit which entitles
them to sample each of the recipes
and cast a ballot for the "Peoples'
Choice Chili".

on Saturday with daughter Shirley
and Ross Cooper at their cottage at
Long Point.

The family of Dwayne and

A surprise 18th Birthday supper
was held on Saturday for Aimee
Gelinas at her home given by her
parents with several friends attend-
ing.
Ed and Dorothy Smith of Zurich
along with Marg and Jim Kendall
of St. George recently spent three
seeks travelling through the Mari-
time provinces.
Jules and Helen Corriveau of
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan spent
the weekend with his brother Wil-
fred Corriveau.
The 'annual Geoffrey family get-
together was held at the home of
Jerome and Betty Geoffrey in Till-
sonburg on Saturday with Clarence
and Beattie and Kevin and Shelley
Geoffrey and family attending.
Belated Birthday wishes go out to
Rose Regier, Louis Denomme and
Bill' Smith all celebrating on Au-
gust 2.
A bus full of people from town
spent Friday to Monday going to
Ohio doing various things and see-
ing a lot of interesting places.
Joanne Lansbergen of Holland is
presently spending the monthof Au-
gust visiting with her mother Chris-
tine and family members.
Cecilia Farwell and Verda Baech-
ler attended the convention for Sen-
ior Citizens held at the University
of Windsor this past week.
George and Rosalie Harvey from
Redford, Michigan spent the past
week at their cottage near St. Jo-
seph.
