Annual rally
of Women's
Institutes

AILSA CRAIG - Tuesday, July
14, members of the Women's Insti-
tutes from all over Middlesex
County came to the lovely park at
Ailsa Craig for their annual rally.
North Middlesex was hostess with
their president, Evelyn McNaugh-
ton, in charge or the programme.
McNaughton welcomed everyone,
reminding them of the theme: "Re-
lax and enjoy" and started the meet-
ing on the right note with her usual
good jokes and stories.
During the business session the
women were. informed of the Agri -
food Tour being planned for Octo-
beat 4. The members gave approval
fot',having a display set up at one of•
the farms that will be visited. Glen-
na Ladell agreed to assist the De-
partment of Agriculture in restruc-
turing the Agricultural courses that
will be offered in the county. On
October 3, "Alpha" has planned an
auction sale at the County BuiId-
ings, London; one of the features
will be "home-made pies". Each in-
stitute in North Middlesex is asked
to provide three pies.
Board memier Marg Harris re-
ported on thew A.C.W.W. held in
Holland this year. She reported that
there were five representatives
from former Iron Curtain countries
who were able to attend for the first
time.
One of the highlights each year is
the presentation to the W.I. scholar-
ship winner. This year the lucky
girl was Shane McEachern of Glen-
coe. She plans on entering Water -
loci University this fall and is look-
ing forward to teaching French.
The members always look for-
ward to the presentation by the Ru-
ral Organization specialist from the
Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and
Food and this year was no excep-
tion. Valerie Clark led the women
through various ways of relaxation;
may of which can be continued at
hone. She said "Take care of your
body, -there is no spare in the
trunk."

VARNA - Happy birthday to
Elva Peck. Family and friends sur-
prised Elva with a big birthday par-
ty at her and Bob's home on Satur-
day. There were approximately 65
in all attending.
Bev and Shirley Hill celebrated
their 25th Anniversary with a pig
mast for all their family, friends
and neighbours on Sunday.

Lakeside Service for both Varna
and Goshen at the Stanley Town-
ship Park with a potluck picnic to
