Kirkton Kruise a growing success

KIRKTON - Whether there to
show off their pride and joy or sim-
ply to catch a glimpse of some vin-
tage automobiles, hundreds of car
lovers gathered on Thursday night
at the Kirkton Community Centre
for the fourth annual Kirkton Klas-
sic Kruise.
Organizers, Wendy and Ray
Venturin and Kirk Wackier regis-
tered over 200 classic car owners
for the event from as far as Lon-
don, Cambridge, Woodstock and
Windsor and said the cruise has
been quickly growing in popularity
since its inception.
One reason, speculates Wendy is
the more personal touch they give
to the event by handing out identi-
fication cards for the from window'
of each car, not charging for regis-
tration and supplying door prizes.
"We try to identity each car to
make it more personable for every-
one," said Ray.
"If you don't know anything
about cars, you don't have to," add-
ed Wendy as she points out the
year, make, model and name and
city of the owner is displayed on
the card.
Participants agreed that this small
town car cruise was undeniably up
to par with those which have been
held in places such as Stratford and
London for years.
"This is one of the better ones.
They do a good job here," com-
mented Brian Hodgins of Exeter
who has been attending car shows
with his original 1966 Mercury
Comet and modified 1975 Austin
Mini for the past year.
Jack and Karen Cooper of Hen-
sall have attended about four car
shows a week for years and agree
that Kirkton's event is definitely
one to be enjoyed by all.
"The people here do a good job.
People can come as a family, a
couple or single," said Karen.
Debbie Cuthill of Clinton and her
husband Paul are considered "rook-
ies" at the event since they bought
their 1960 Chevrolet Impala only a
month ago. The couple have thor-
oughly enjoyed their experience
thus far and Karen said the Kirkton
Massie Kruise was, "great fun and
a great social event".
To help "keep in the mood of the
era of the cars," the co -organizers
had entertainment by the 4Shadow,
a quartet of acapella singers from
London.
