There are 16 -teams entered in the 11th Annual Exeter Fastball Tournament which was won last year by Exeter. The other 8 p.m. game will put Mitchell' Mets against London Bonnie's Dugout while at 9:30 p.m. Petrolia meet Toronto Indi- ans and Oakville goes against London State Contactors. Opening round games continue on Saturday when Glencoe meets St Pauls and Sarnia takes on Toronto Four Star Dairy at 9 a.m. The 10:30 a.m. games will see in opening Inst Ayr ing a couple of Colts errors and a Derwyn Hodgins base hit. The game remained 2-0 until the fifth when Hodgins gave up a long home run and it was a one run game until the top of the ninth when the imperials' bats exploded for four hits and five tits. Hodgins went the distance on the hill for the visitors allowing just four hits while striking out 15 and walking one. He struck ow the side in the second and fourth innings. The Exeter ace got in trouble in the seventh when he allowed a hit and a walk but managed to strike out three in a row. 'MARYS - Senior athletes from throughout the area did very well at the-Petth•Middleeex District Senior Games on Tuesday and Wednesday in St. Marys. Grand Cove Estates and Grand Bend Golden Agers brought home seven and five medals respective- ly. Ole Olekson, with a 545 triple and Marie Wintle with 445, paced Grand Cove's five -pin bowling team to a gold medal victory with 89 and 73 pins over their respec- tive averages of 152 and 124. Albert Hargreaves Kay Allen and. Bob Simpson adde.i 58 over, 41 over and 61 over as the team bowled 200 pins over its average. The Zurich team led by Rose and Alfred Priest's 90 and 62 pins over their 107 and 109 averages won the silver medal with 185 pins over its team average. Other team members were Laird and Mary Ja- cobe and John Lillie. Ron and Jean Dann set the pace for Grand Bend's third five -pin bowling medal in the last four years with 716 and 655 triples for 116 and 73 pins over their perspec- tive 200 and 194 averages. Clay- ton Lovie, Dorothy Cutting and Nola Taylor helped the team win the bronze with 161 pins over its average. Grand Cove won a gold and a bronze in golf with Norma Low winning the gold in the 0-19 hand- icap division while Grand Bend golfers picked up four medals. Ted Thurston won gold in the 13-25 handicap division, Bernice Haynes silver in the 0-19, Bert Pullen silver in the 0-12 and Elena Black bronze in the 30-40 handi- cap. Bud Andrews won the triathlon gold as Grand Cove took silvers in the men's swimming and swim predictionpreand a bronze in crib- Zttrich's shuffleboard team won a silver and Dashwood won sliver in bridge and a bronze in the men's 13-25 golf division. Tripp third WALLACEBURG - Seven-year- old Chris Tripp recently finished third in the weapons division at the Wallaceburg Karate Tournament With the bow, the Exeter resi- dent, representing Tyndall's Karate Club, did his routine in front of sev- eral black belts and a large crowd. Tripp will be among the many competitors from the local club who will be in Welland, Hamilton and London later this summer for more tournaments. New records LUCAN - Launi Appleman set a new Biddulph Central School record in the 1,500 metres with a time of 5:56. Also at the school's own track and field meet, Corey Smith set a new record in the high imp at 1.51 metros. At the Middlesex County meet recently held at the University of Western Ontario, Teresa Lojzer of Biddulph was the overall winner in the I3 -year-old division. De-ann Rollings placed second in the 10 - year -old divison. The following records were set by Biddulph students at the county meet; Shanna Townsend, softball throw; Rollings in the 75 metres; Lee Cosens in the 400 metres. The relay team of Lojzer, Andrea French, Verna Willems and Lynd- sey Hardy set a new record. Great defense SHAKESPEARE - Outstanding defense helped the Exeter Royals win the 'B' final of the Bantam Boys Fastball Tournament on the weekend. After dropping the opening game, a 6-5 decision against Atwood, the Royals won four straight In their second game, Exeter met Sarnia and won big 13-3. The game was highlighted by a triple play by the Royals in the third inning. With none out and runners on first and second, Exeter outfielder Gavin Snell caught the ball hit the cutoff which doubled off a runner and then they stopped another run- ner trying to score. In their third game of the tourna- ment, second baseman Chris McDonald had three hits as Exeter beat New Dundee 12-5. The next game of the round-robir event was sparked by Royals' pitch er Dennis Gower who tossed a one - hitter en route to a 10-0 shutout win over Millbank. Gower struck out 10. In the 'B' final, Exeter beat Mary- hill 7-2. McDonald had two singles and Ben Armstrong had' a double and a single. Exeter led 4-0 in the first inning. Five boys from Precious Blood School in Exeter did very well at the Huron -Perth Roman Catholic Separate School board ele- mentary school track and field meet recently in Goderich.
