Sunday
School
picnic held
CENTRALIA - Despite the cold
temperatures and threatening skies,
93 attended the annual Sunday
School and Church picnic.
Chip 'n Dale Scripture Rangers
were there to greet everyone and
then a delicious potluck meal was
enjoyed. A wide variety of action
games and guessing games were.
played with everyone being a win-!
ner! The tractor and wagon ride
around the property put the finish-
ing touches on a cool; but fun filled
evening.
The bridal shower on Friday eve-
ning provided Lori Parker and
Scott Crawford with many wonder-
ful and useful gifts for their new
home. The ladies were asked to
share their first cooking disaster
while the men were to share how
they met their wife. Followed by a
few games, a delicious lunch was
served.
Car wash a success
EXETER - The Canada Employ-
ment Centre for students held a pro-
motional car wash and hotdog sale
on Friday. The event was a great
success despite the uncertain
weather.
The car wash raised $30.00 for
Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Ex-
eter, while the remainder of the
money was used for a raffle. One
lucky customer, Janis Cardiff, won
the raffle and will receive a student
worker free -of -charge. The student
will be paid by the Student centre.
Peter's Point

everybody loves a parade. lust
don't call it a birthday. Why not?
Because it's not true. Because it's
an insult to our First Nations -
i Canada's true "founding na-
1 dons". And because it overlooks
six of our ten provinces who did
not join Canada until later.
Newfoundland, for example,
didn't join Confederation until
1949. So what's` the point in
lighting 125 candles on an island
that has only been part of Cana-
da for 43 years?
Canada Day for everybody
There is every reason to cele-
brate Canada Day as a national
holiday. As a day to remember
Canada's history and heritage -
all its history and all its heritage.
Not just the contributions of a
minority. Not just the signing of
one particular document or the
posturing of dull, drab and bor-
ing politicians who took pleas-
ure in calling themselves "The
Fathers of Confederation."
Yes, I'm in favour of celebrat-
ing Canada Day. No, 1 don't
think Canada Day should be
called Canada's birthday. That
way everybody can be happy.
And a little bit of happiness is
what Canadians need in the
midst of all this dullness created
by yet another bunch of dull,
drab and incredibly boring poli-
ticians.
