June 30, 1982 - Huron county approved a model liquid ma-
nure storage bylaw. Hay township reeve Lkyyd Mousseau com-
plained that it didn't take stronger action agaI st earthen and
uncovered manure storage areas.
Dan Altars who is attempting to cross Canada in a wheel chair
to raise finds for disabled athletes stopped in Exeter and Hen-
sall, Saturday.
More than 30 graduates of the former Hensall High School at-
tended a recent reunion at the home of Minnie Noakes.
25 Years Ago
June 29, 1967 -Three students at South Huron District High
School were named tops in their class for the second consecutive
year. They were Mary Wilson, John Goddard and Gary Flax -
bard.
After considerable bickering, Bosanquet, Stephen and Hay
townships have come to terms with the village of Grand Bend
regarding fire retainer fees.
Despite cold winds and cloudy conditions, more than 1,600
Stephen township residents and friends attended a Canada Cen-
tennial birthday party at Stephen Central School.
Winner of the Stephen township tug-of-war competition was
the team from Shipka captained by Cliff Russell. The best
dressed family prize went to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shoebottom.
50 Years Ago
July 2, 1942 - The grocery store of Herman Dayman in the
heart of the business section of Hensall was destroyed in a spec-
tacular fire that is believed to have followed an explosion in a re-
frigerator.
Exeter dairy operators Wm. Hatter and N. Stanlake and Son
announced a Milk Control Board regulation calling for a five
cent deposit on all milk bottles. All credit sales of milk are to
cease.
Due to a reduction in the amount of road subsidy, the town-
ship of Usborne will not pay for cutting of roadside weeds in
1942.
The reeve and council of Exeter have declared next week as
"Army Week" with the slogan, "Let's prove we are behind the
boys in khaki."
W.J. Ryckman surprised his neighbours with a gift of five new
home-grown potatoes on June 26.
100 Years Ago
June 30, 1892 - Tweed suits were selling for $12.50 and a nice
straw hat sold for 45 cents at merchant tailor W.H. Grieve's.
H.E. Hueston of Exeter and William Coats of Clinton will ar-
bitrate a -school section boundary matter between Hay and Stan-
ley townships.
A grand concert will be given on the evening of July 1 in the
Centralia hall. Entertainment will be by Canada's top elocution-
ist Frederick Abbott.
John Spackman of Grand. Bend was in Exeter last week mak-
ing arrangements for a bus to run three times a week to his new
cottages and pleasure grounds. He also has a number of boats
on hand for fishing.
A number of Zurich residents attended the "Kinderlag" fes-
tivities in Dashwood last Sunday.
For the accessibility of Exeter people wishing to attend Cen-
tralia's Dominion Day festivities, Mr. Essery will run a large bus
at 1 and 2.30 p.m. Round trip fare is 25 cents.
Paul Henderson to
lead United Way
CLINTON - The Huron United
Way is well on the way to assem-
bling its 1992 Campaign Team.
Each year the Huron United Way
plan to recognize an outstanding
member of the committee by invit-
ing them to be their Honourary
Campaign Chairperson. It was with
pride they appointed Lloyd Eisler
and Isabelle Brasseur, Canadian
Figure Skating Champions, medial.'
initial Co-chairs. They epitomize
the innovation, exuberance and en-
ergy of Huron United Way's ap-
proach to problems in the commu-
nity.
As they enter their fust full cam-
paign, they .are also proud to an-
nounce the 1992 Honourary Cam-
paign chair, Paul Henderson.
Henderson, raised in Lucknow was
a member of the Maple Leafs, De-
troit Red Wings, Birmingham Bulls
and a participant in the 1972 Cana-
da Cup.
He is best known for the winning
goal in the last three games of the
1972 Canada -Russia series. Many
can still close their eyes and see
that winning goal with 34 seconds
remaining in the final game. For
the Huron United Way, Henderson
symbolized what individuals with
an outstanding effort and the com-
mitment of a hard working team be-
hind than can achieve.
Lately, Henderson has been one
of the moving forces behind the
Campus Crusade for Christ. Cana-
da working out pf Mississauga,
where he helps men to develop the
spiritual side of life. He also sits on
the Advisory Board of Muskoka
Woods Sports camp sad has been
closely associated with Teen Ranch
for the past 17 years, prseently on
the Advisory Council
He is also a spokesperson for
Hockey Development in the Esso
Penalty Free Sweepstakes. Charity
Work is one of his prioniics. As a
motivational speaker be . has ad-
dressed many companies, including
General Motors, Irving Oil, Consu-
mers Gas and Peoples Jewellers.
During the campaign Henderson
will be visiting several communi-
ties. On Wednesday October 28,
the Rotary Club of Oraud Bead will
host a banquet at is Oakwood Ian
in °mad Beed at which Henderson
will be the featured guest. Keep that
date clear to help celebrate Hender-
son's 20 years of and Huron's first
year of winning for member agen-
cies. An excellent photo and a good
TV opportunity.

Blind Mission
craft store
opens in
Exeter
EXETER - Mayor Bruce Shaw
and Art Brooker, director of the
Christian Blind Mission Intertla-
tional helped officially open the
World of Goods craft store at 293
Main Street in Exeter Thursday af-
ternoon.
The store will be managed by
Carol Gingerich who just recently
returned from a, seven-year term
with CBMI in Ethiopia.
Designed along the lines of a
Third World market, this is CBMI's
third international craft store. The
others are in Stouffville and Maple
Ride, B.C.
All three stores deal exclusively
in good produced by disabled peo-
ple in developing countries. In this
way, the stores are an extension of
CBMrs work of rehabilitation
among disabled men and women
overseas.
Through CBMI's stores, these ca-
pable and talented artisans are able
to find a profitable market for their
crafts.
The Exeter store carries a fine
line of crafts from baskets and jew-
elery boxes to clothing and carv-
ings.
