Stephen tesidents will ceiebtate this weekend CREDTTON - Happy birthday festivities and a time of reminiscing. That's what will be.happening 'this weekend as Ste- phen township residents, neighbours and friends join together in Crediton to .celebrate 150 years of history with a mammoth Sesquicentennial Home- coming Weekend. • It all begins Friday night as eight township families will vie for distinction in a slo-pitch tournament. Saturday morning activities begin early as the Stephen township firemen sponsor a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. A lenghty parade. will leave.the conservation park at the east end of the police village of Crediton at 11 a.m. and cover a three kilometre span to -the new township shed at the west end of the hamlet At press time more than 60 entries had been received. Anyone can still enter by calling Ross Haugh at 234-6336. Response to the .classic and antique car show has also been good. En- tries will still be =tented by Al Renning at 235-2035. Immediatcly.after the.parade. official ceremonies will be held at the Ste- phen municipal office building. Included will be:appearances by local pol- iticians and representatives -of the German and Netherlands Consuls in Canada, A Sesquicentennial plaque will be unveiled, a special edition his- tory book will be auctioned and email hanging will be presented to coun- cil by the Crediton, Dashwood and Grand Bend Women's Institutes. Saturday afternoon activities range from beach volleyball, horseshoe challenge, mini tractor pull, karate demonstrations, Dutch Dancers, fire- men extrication demo, etc. The Bluewater Shriners will be presenting a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., the Crystalaires will be providing dancing mu- sic. Ross Daily of CFPL-television will be the guest speaker at an ecumeni- cal church service Sunday morning at 10.3(1'a.ni. All township churches will be participating. Following thh:church service, the firemen will again be providing food in the form of brunch. A variety of games and sports for the youngsters will begin at 1 pin. At 4 p.m., Team TV 10 will be on the Stephen Curies in a fun - filled slo-pitch game. Festivities end with the drawing of the lucky ticket on a draw for a trip for two to Las Vegas.
