Lack of manpower hurts Centennials
By Dion Lord
STRATHROY
- The Exeter Cen-
tennials senior
soccer team
found them-
selves without
the services
of four regu-
lar starters
- on Saturday
as they travelled k the Portuguese
Canadian Club of Stratluoy.
It was a good effort by the start-
ing 11, but the experience of the
missing starters showed with the
continuous attack of the home
team.
Exeter missed some good scoring
opportunities early that would have
made a definite difference on the

outcome of the game. Strativoy
was successful however on some
miscued shots directed towards the
Exeter goal and the visitors had a
tough time not dwelling on the re-
sulting goals.
Strathroy was winning 4-0 before
Peter Hakvoort put the visitors on
the board converting a cross from
George McEwan. McEwan himself
missed on an exeeHent individual
effort as did Charlie Wise later in
the second half.
With only two subs, Exeter strug-
gled a bit, however when two
players left the field for Exeter as a

result of injuries, it was even more
of a work load on the visitors' de-
fence.
The final score of 5-1 for the
home team certainly was not indic-
ative of the game.
The Centennials would certainly
like to believe it is possible for the
game result to be reversed when
Exeter plays host to Strathroy on
August 23 at 4 p.m. in Exeter.
To achieve this however, the lo-
cal team will need some hustle and
the goalie will have to be quick off

SHOPPING
Of courts', to be fair, l have to
be willing to apply the same
principle to service stations,
convenience stores, golf
courses, bowling alleys, are-
nas, ball diamonds, even TV,
because people have to work
to bring it to us.
Maybe I'll compromise a lit-
tle; after all, that's what prin-
ciples are for.
