But at a closer look `masked bandits" appear from nowhere to reveal a different story. Spike and T2 are 6 week old rac- coonsAbeing raised by Eleta and Earl Pfaff and their children Sabri- na and Adam Johns and Tyler. The family adopted the cubs at about two weeks of age when their moth- er was killed leaving behind her lit- ter. After only 6 weeks, the kids say each coon has developed its own personality. Sabrina says they seem to have fallen into "male/ female stereotypes" with T2 being the timid female and Spike the ag- gressive male who is quick to fight for the bottle of baby pabulum they share. As well, Sabrina -has noted, when taking the family pets to school, that "they know how to identify us from other people." Eleta looked at different, more environmentally compatible homes for the young taccoons but says no one would take them. "1 wish there wet) plaoes that could take animals lute tills," treys Eleta, "We keep them in as natural an environment as possible," she adds. Spike and T2 often enjoy trips to the river where they at- tempt to catch darting crayfish says Sabrina. The entire family has watched the two babies grow healthy enough to take such trips to Mac - Naughton Park. Upon arrival, Earl admits he didn't think one of the raccoons was going to live. Be- cause the family had raised another raccoon the year before they were quick to get the requited nutrients to give the two new pets strength. Spike and T2 were fed powdered milk and water then an egg and milk mixture as they grew and can now manage to hold the bottles of baby pabulum by themselves be- tween all fours. The two siblings have also adopt- ed a mother out of the situadon with the family house cat, Sydney. "She doesn't let them out of her sight," says Sabrina. syaney seemed to pick up on the maternal instinct quickly and tends to be pro - I teethe of them: She is c6ntent\o I pia with Spike and T2 in talk for dee tern- . • em- • tJriginally, the Naffs found one hardship with the two masked ani - r mals was their nocturnal sleeping Adam Johns getB,.a kick cgiti.ctbakyypikodilaftlise silt, week old Spike and T2. County to appeal CiINX sale GODERICH - County councillor Thomas Cunningham from Hallett Township ,got council's support Thursday to protest the restructur- ing of C KNX television. Cunningham said the sale of CFPL TV London at d Wingham's CIINX :to the group which owns CFPO in Toronto would result in an "unavoidable reduction in cover- age". and said he didn't want Huron County's only television station to become just a relay transmitter for London. The Blackburn group had an- nounced the restructuring of the two television stations before the sale to the CFTO group went through. The sale will -have to be approved by the Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commis- sion before it is final. Cunningham told council he wanted the station to retain its dedi- cation to the rural nature of the county and that Huron council should, take it up with the CRTC. Council agreed, and will also be sending a leder of concern to the Blackburn Group. BILL HASKETT We'reglad youasked! BOB FLETCHER WHAT IS THE MEDIC ALERT PROGRAM? I Shop and Support Exeter There are many reasons as to why I shop in Exeter. One main reason is. easy access. You can park your car without having to pay anything and walk downtown, whereas, of you were to,.so. to.Mme other town to shop you would moltlikely have to - drive your - ear ,togra fro the different shops - and youould probably have to pay for Park*. Another advantage for shopping in Exeter, is the fact that people know you and they are kind and consider- ate. They may let you take an item home to try it out of you have any doubts about it. The businessmen and women of Ex- eter also sponsor and support many activities that are of benefit to the kids. So if we go to another city and support them, then we shouldn't ex- pect the people in Exeter to sponsor us because we aren't shopping at their stores. I hope everyone will stop and think twice before they go and shop else- where. If we don't shop here in Exeter, then we may lose more Mores that can't stay in business. We may, also lose ,the people's support - those' who sponsor u8. Auril Prest The B.I.A. thanks all those who took the time to enter Junior Winner Why Should We Shot) in Exeter We should shop in Exeter fu. .lum- ber of reasons, but the most important is to support the families that are lo- cated in or near the town. The more we spend our money in Exeter the more prosperous it will become. Shop- ping across the borders not only tak- ing money from Exeter, but Ontario and Canada. There are several differ- ent reasons why people should shop in Exeter. Like many small towns, Exet- er does not have any parking meters. Parking meters consume a lot of time and trouble. Our town has a wide va- riety of stores. Just as many as small cities! We have grocery, clothing and con- venient ' stores. Hardware, pet and drugstores. And many more! Exeter is a fairly small town. Moat people know one another so it helps make shopping more interestingand pleasant. If you live outside o xeter and shop here now and the , the staff of several stores mak opping easier by show- ing you around and showing a person- al interest in your shopping. If you bought some kind of product an Lon- don and then bought the same prod- uct in Exeter you would findthat you paid about the same amount. Those are just some of the reasons why peo- ple should shop in Exeter. Exeter may be an interesting place to visit and to live in, but it sure does have a big variety of great stores to shop in!!
