Exeter Juniors find winning ways
EXETER - After getting off to a
fairly slow start in which they lost
three of their first four games, the
Exeter Co -Op Juniors are back on
the winning track.
Saturday, they beat the tough Si
Marys Storm 7-1 to even' their
Western Junior Baseball League
record to 3-3. On Wednesday, Ex-
eter had little trouble beating the St.
Marys midget club, the Stonetown
Saints, 16-1.
At the start of the season, the Ex-
eter Juniors had an abundance of
players due to the Dashwood team
folding. That meant the coaching
staff had to do some position shuf-
fling.
"We had trouble figuring out who
was going to play where," said
-itch Jim Russell.
But after the two wins last week,
things seem to be geuing back to
what the team hopes to be normal.
"We had two or three guys pitch-
ing who normally don't pitch," he
Exeter lost a good nucleus of
their team when veteran pitcher/
shortstop and catcher David
Schwindt made the Stratford Junior
Hillers.
Mark Glavin has filled in behind
the plate and has seen double duty
doing a little pitching as well.
"He's going to be a good catcher.
He needs more work, we need
more games," said Russell.
Exeter 7, St. Matas 1
Despite the wet weather ,on Sat-
urday, the host Juniors jumped into
a quick 2-0 lead after just a couple
of innings.
in the first, Steve Nixon led off
with a single, moved on a passed
ball and was to third on a wild
pitch. A St. Marys error which saw
Mark Russell get on made it 1-0.
