Bluewater Recycling has best year yet GRAND BEND - The 1991 fiscal year proved to be the most success- ful year to date for the Bluewater Recycling Association, an organi- zation of 40 municipalities coopera- tively working together to achieve significant waste reduction in Hu- ron, Lambton, Middlesex and Perth County. Elected municipal representatives attending the Association's annual meeting in St. Marys earlier this month, learned that the Association diverted more material from land- fill than in any previous year. Over 24.8 million containers ware divert- ed and processed, amounting to 4044:29 tons. This diversion was achieved during a time in which the operating cost reached a new low. Actual operational cost, before grants and revenue was $23A8 per share, a 26 percent decrease from the previous year. Improved efficiency within the operation, coupled with material sales that greatly exceeded budget r sr. arts a a — 1 1 1 At Pinery Auction Barn 1 On Hwy. 21, 4 mile S. of Grand Bend Saturday May 16 Annual Spring- _ 1 11 a.m. - Nursery Stock We will be selling, for a loWnursery, a selection of over,300 lots of high quality nursery stock consisting I good variety of upright and spreadingjunipers, globe cedars, flowering I shrubs and trees,,hanging baskets, flowering planters, etc. in assorted I oolours and sizes. 1 1 p.m. Household furnishings; Gooch, small tables, hide -a -bed, book 1 and plant stands, dresser, beds, stacking chairs, stereo, card table,) kitchen table and chairs, stove, washer, dryer, microwave,. convection oven, small appliances, dishes, baby buggy sleeper/stroller, trimmers, I new gold clubs and bag with cart, telephone, fan, Tandy computer, I spin washer curio cabinet, armed chrome chairs, iron bench, wicker 'baskets, R.R. lamp, old New Haven wall clock, peanut jar, old radio, I set of 6 maps and stand, rubber raft, fishing rods and reels, tackle box - I es, 21' high -low trailer (fully equipped), 17 1/2 Bambi Air stream, '80 Olds (loaded) etc. VIEWING: 10 a.m. day of sale. Ti J MS: c'.ash, Visa, or Master Card targets resulted in an overall sur- plus of almost $200,000, which has been set aside as reserve for future capital replacement, say Bluewater officials. The Association sees the devel- opment of new markets as a key to the financial success. The sale of recyclable - products brought in $180,000 in 1991, more than dou- bling the anticipated sales revenue. "The Association will continue to seek out and develop ethical, profit generating markets for its prod- ucts," said Association president Francis Veilleux. "We will place particular emphasis on the devel- lopment of local markets." Contrary to the picture often painted elsewhere in the province, markets never havewbeen a problem for Bluewater Recycling. In fact, the Association hopes to expand its collection base in an attempt to sup- - ply the ever-increasing demand for its products.
