EXETER - Police officers from
both the Ontario Provincial Po-
lice, Exeter dctschmpnt, and the
Exeter Town Police will once
again be participating in the Onta-
rio Law Enforcement Torch Run.
The run, on Wednesday, Jute 3,
will begin at the Bluewater Rest
Home in Zurich and proceed 12
kilometers along Highway .84 to
Hensall and than 11 kilometers
down Highway 4 to Exeter.
Officers are 'expected to arrive
in:Hensall at 925 p.m. -and in Ex -
eter at 10:45 p.m.
This is the third consecutive
year of involvement for the Exet-
er officers as they have raised
close to $12,000 for Ontario Spe-
cial Olympics in the last two
years.
"We're been the top in the dis-
trict *littlest two years," said OPP
constable George Finch.
He has been the organizer for
the locabportion of the run which
helps raise funds for developmen-
tally handicapped athletes across
the province.
Last year, eight OPP, one mu-
nicipal, two civilian staff and five
athletes participated in the run.
Although Finch and his fellow
officers raised $5,001 in their in-
augural year of 1990 and $6,770
in 1991, he said he doesn't expect
that kind of financial support this
year.
"It's able, we have no
problem with that." he said.
Finch also said the run accents
community based policing.
Anyone wishing to sponsor an
officer for the Toch Run, through
the Adopt -A -Cop program, may
contact any local police officer.
