EXETER - Wheels rather than
blades were the method of move-
ment but everything else was the
same.
At the MacLean's Source For
Sports -Bauer Roller Hockey Tour-
nament on Sunday, eight teams
skated, passed, shot and scored;
'two Deaths in.esuch division advanc-
ing to the Southwestern Ontario
championship in London on May
31.
In the peewee division it was no
surprise the Exeter Bad Boyz won,
beating the Lucan Leprechaun 2-0.
The Bad Boyz were the only team
on the day to win all three of their
round-robin games, scaring 16
goals while allowing just one.
Goalie Mike France, who is
known for his offensive abilities
during the ice hockey season, had
three shutouts in four games.
In the final game against Lucan,
Bad Boyz Chad Gilfillan scored
just seven seconds into the game
and later in . the first period, Jeff
MacLean made it 2-0.
But -Lucan goalie Dave Riddell,
one of the few goalies who opted to
wear the In -Line roller skates dur-
ing the tournament, did not allow
another goal.
Both the Bad Boyz and the Lep-
rechauns, who were 2-1-0 during
the round-robin advance to Lon-
don. -The other two peewee aged ,
teams were the Exeter Rolling
Rebels and the Stephen Township
Sharks.
In the atom final, Michael
DeYong and Jason Miles scored in
the first period to pace -the Exeter -
open

EXETFR - Outstanding de-
fense helped the Exeter Chrysler
Imperials win Men ope;ung
game Thursday night as they
blanked the visiting St. Agatha
Thunder 4-0.
On Sunday, they remained un-
defeated in South Penh Men's
Fastbail League action, beating
the host Fultatton A's 841.
Despite a slippery outfield,
Exeter's Sandy Hyde made a
diving catch on the first batter of
the game, Rob Erb, and the next
inning imperials' shortstop Dan
Heywood backhanded a Kevin
Reid hard gmunder.
In the fourth Inning, Exeter
first baseman Kevin Lightfoot
doubled off Brad Dietrich when
he snagged a line drive.
Exeter's offense began in the
sixth inning when Hyde walked
with two out, he mewed to third
on a Jim Allison single and
Hyde scored die first nun of the
Imperialsesason-on a wild pitch.
Imperials coach Chuck Hum -
bey said after the game, he was
not too upset about a late -
starting offense.
"1'm not concerned yet, it's too
early," he said.
1n the eighth inning, the Exet-
er offense got rolling when out-
fielder Darren Neil reached base
when he hit hard back to Thun-
der pitcher Trevor Jutzi and
Sandy Hyde walked.
Allison, having a good day at
the plate, blasted atripie to cen-
ter field, scoring both Neil and
Hyde. ,
"On the triple, he (Jutzi] made
a mistake. The ball was flat and
letter high," said Allison.
He scored, making it 4-0 when
Lightfoot grounded out.
"I'm seeing the ball well," said
Allison. "I'm concentrating
more."
The opening game was a
pitching duel up to the sixth in-
ning as Juizi allowed only a
Mike Neil double in the first
five innings he worked.
berwyn Hodgins started on
the mound for the imperials, al-
lowing three hits -and two walks
in five innings while striking out
six batters. He was replaced in
the sixth by Doug Charlton who
gave up just one hit and no
walks in the four innings he
pitched. He struck out four, and
fanned the Thunder side in the
seventh.
Exeter had a deep bench for
the first game as 17 players
were available.

First baseman Graham Nesbitt
swung a big bat as he had an rbi
triple in the first inning and a
two -run homer in the fifth frame.
The imperials got to Fullerton
pitcher Greg Wise early, as they
had two runs off of the former
Exeter hurler in the second in-
ning, plated two more in the fifth
and banged out five hits fbr four
runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Hodgins went the distance on
the Imperials' mound striking out
17 batters.
The Imperials see action next
on Thursday when they host the
Milverton Magnums at 9 p.m.
and travel to St. Marys on Sun-
day where they will take on the
Nighthawks at 9 p.m.

LUCAN - With a pair of wins,
the . Lucan Juniors remained unde-
feated in the Western Junior Base-
ball League.
On Thursday they won a 16-1 de-
cision against visiting Saltford and
on Sunday caked out a 14-13 win
over Listowel.
. In a darkened five inning contest
Thursday. Lucan pitcher Matt Mun-
ro tossed a two -hitter and struck out
13.
This one was over in the first in-
ning as Lucan scored 11 runs, send-
ing 16 batters to the plate. The
hosts had only four hits in the first
frame but combined that with five
walks and four Saltford errors.
Greg Boahart led the Lucan of-
fense, .going duet -for -three includ-
ing a double and two singles.

This was by no means a pitchers'

In:the s ason'opener, Exeter used
three different pitchers as Joe Mas -
kelt, Darryl Hartman and Andy
Glavin all had their throws from the
hill.
Coach Gary Hartman .said he is
very pleased with his team's effort
in its.frst game.
"I'm surprised we won by that
amount," said Hartman who coach-
es along with Bill Hodge. "We've
had a lot more •practices " he said
compered to.the other teams in the
league.
This season, Exeter has two ban-
tam teams and the two practiced 1
and played exhibition games to
LUDO, up for the regular season.
Also on Thursday. Andy Glavin
had a triple and two singles while -
both Craig Glavin.and Hartman had
a pair of base hits.
Hartman said he moved a lot of 1
playas around in the opener. Andy
Glavin pitched :and canted while
Daryl Hartman pitched and:shared
the fust base duties with Jason Gia- \

championship tournament during
the Labor Day weekend. They will
