"Do you know the Muf-
fin Man, .
The Muffin Man,
the Muton Man,
Do you know the
Muffin Man,
Who lives in Drury
Lane?"
It seems that in 19th cen-
tury England, there were
such people as Muffin Men who combed the streets at tea time
with huge trays of muffins on their heads selling their wares.
That was at the height of muffin popularity in England. Today
these delicious treats are being reintroduced into England as
delicacies from America!
My dictionary defines muffin as "a light, quick bread, baked
in small cup -shaped tins and usually eaten hot with butter."
Sounds good tome!
No one knows the exact origin of thewvuitinuffin, but it
may have come from the ancient Roman "mffula" similar to a
sandwich or the Lower German "muffen", plural for "muffe' or
cake. Whatever the origin, muffins come in such a wide range
of flavours -and textures that they appeal to almost everyone,
almost anytime.
There etre muffin mixes on the market which allow for home-
made muffins with little fuss. Robin Hood has now produced a
low fat, cholesterol free muffin mix for those who must watch
their fat intake.
It's hard to make muffins in our home because everyone has
their own personal favourite. We have basically settled on
four; bran, banana, blueberry and raspberry, with a tangy
orange tossed in occasionally just for interest.
