John Pepper
celebrates his
90th birthday
HENSALL - One
of the oldest
athletes in
Huron
County is
still go-
ing
strong.
On
Tuesday, April 28, Hensall's John
Pepper celebrated his 90th birth-
day. On this special occasion, Pep-
per did what he does three days a
week, plays shuffleboard.
With a big smile he said he has
been playing for five years. Along
with some of his friends, Pepper
travels to Exeter to play.
"We go to Exeter every Wednes-
day and Thursday to shuffle. He
drives his own car. He'll stop driv-
ing in the fall," said Pearl
McKnight.
Tuesday at the Hensall Commu-
nity Centre, Pepper moved around
the room every 20 minutes, playing
with a new partner. McKnight said
he is a good player.
"You pick your partners and you
change every 20 minutes. He's a
terrific shuffler, he doesn't miss.
Pepper is modest and said he's
not that good.
"Actually I'm not."
The former farmer and resident
of Exeter looks forward to playing
which keeps him very active and
physically fit.
His friends provided him with a
lovely yellow flower to wear on
Tuesday and they made sure he had
some birthday cake.
Taking atm during a shuffleboard game on his 90th birthday
was John Pepper.
