The awards banquet, the seventh in the team's brief history, not only featured trophies and plaques for recipients, but a special, solid -silver guest for the evening. John Pryde, Mohawks vice- president, referred to the guest as "Ross Roberston", the Robertson Memorial Cup which has the names of senior hockey champions dating back toc1947, and more than one celebrity who went on to NHL stardom. Pryde also saluted the efforts of the team's new booster club, who also presented two awards of their own - one to the "ultimate Mo- hawk" Barry Baynham, who played in all 51 games this season, and the other to coach Dave Revington. Pryde pointed out the Mohawks have managed to win their league championship six out of the seven years they have been playing, and have even proved observers wrong who predicted when the team moved up to Senior A "those guys will be lucky to win a game in this league." OMHA league awards were pre- sented to Joe Scherer for having the highest pouts total of the season, including 38 goals, to scoring run- ner-up Oreg Snyder for sportsman- sh i p, and to the league's top goal - tenders, Rick Pikul, Jeff Hill, and Paul Woolford. The Mohawks also had their own awards for outstanding players. Scherer was again rewarded for his scoring. Craig Oster and Scou Pfaff were jointly awarded the Roo- kie of the Year trophy, and Chris Bedard received the Rowe Fuels Mr* for being elected the team's bestdefenseman. The Mol family trophy for the season MVP went to Joe Scherer, the playoff MVP award went to Rick Pikul for the fourth time, and Merdina Glover memorial award, formerly the "Mohawk Award" went to Barry Baynham, also the fourth consecutive time he has been chosen for that honour. A new award went to the Most Valuable Executive member, and was jointly awarded to Stu Taylor and John Pryde by Dave and Dan McKegan of Murphy's Restaurant. Team captain Jeff Shipley thanked the teams supporters, the players wives and girlfriends, the sponsors, and thanked team veteran Gordie Brooks "for not putting us to sleep again thisyear with his re- tirement speech". awards Deny Baynhem, lett; was presented the moria!
