Rural life service at Times Road

THAMES ROAD - Irene Rich-
ardson, lay minister, was in charge
of Rural Life Sunday Church Ser-
vice on Sunday morning.
The choir sang an anthem accom-
panied by the organist Jean Hod-
gen
The congregation sang the chil-
dren's hymn "Come Children Join
to Sing", and Irene gave the chil-
dea►'s message "Planting.Seeds".
Mrs. Richardson read the scrip-
ture lesson John 21: 1-19, Acts 9:1-
20. The title of her sermon was
"For Now I See".

Family Lay at both churches. Elim-
ville at 10 a.m. and Thames Road
at 11:15 a.m.

Umpire's clinic held in Vams

VARNA - There will be an
Umpire's Clinic on Saturday, May
9 at 9:45 to 3 or 4 in the afternoon
to be held at the Stanley Complex.
Please bring bagged lunch. This
for Pee Wee Ages and up (13 and
up). Adults welcome. Cost is 510
per person. This clinic is run by
two Stratford umpires.
Thursday, May 7, Varna U.C.W.
meet at the church. Shelly Van
Akan -who Lives-ih the arca will be
guest speaker. She is a pharmacist
in Goderich and will answer any
questions that you may have.
Also Thursday, the Youth Gmup
(gr. 9 and up) will meet at Kippen
at 6:30 to go bowling. Please note

Vama Sunday School and Mibh-
ers and a few adults enjoyed bowl-
ing on Sunday afternoon in Zurich.
The flowers placed in the church
were in loving memory of Ken
Parker. Deepest sympathy goes out
to his family.
The Goshen ladies entertained at
the Bridal Shower held for Jill
Armstrong (daughter of Howard
and Joyce Armstrong) on Friday
night. Agnes Lampiere welcomed
everyone and thanked them for
coming out to share with them in
the skit entitles "This is Your Life."
"This is Your Life" was a talk
show with many people acting. Pat.
Armstrong playing as Jill and Lin-
da Linfield acting as her sister Ju-
lie. Susan Eckel was the talk show
host asking many humourous ques-
tions with many actors acting them
out. Other Goshen players included
Karen Ratcliffe acting as •+pother
Joyce, Geraldine Eckel acting as
Howard, the three Armstrong boys
all taking part and Kelly Ratcliffe,
Melonic McBride, Joan Van Slig-
tenhorst and girls, Julia Finlay and
Marg Robinson all doing their pan.
The next bridal shower will be
held for Lorelic Robinson at Gosh-
en Church on Tuesday, June 2 at 8
p.m.
Last Tuesday, April 28 volun-
teers at Huron Centennial were
honoured with a special luncheon
provided by the. teachers. Many
from the Varna area attended this
special luncheon in appreciation of
their volunteer work.
Huron Centennial School is cele-
brating 25 years while Huron
County is celebrating 150 years.
Saturday, May 9 Huron Centennial
is having a Community Breakfast
assisted by the Brucefield Firemen
and C,ntde eight. Cost is adults $5.
14 and under $3 and preschoolers
free. This goes from 7 a.m. to 11:30
a.m. There will be continuous en-
tertainment all morning including
an antique car show, pioneer dis-
plays, junior and senior choirs,
doggers etc. This should give eve-
ryone an opportunity to meet and
share different experiences.
A reminder of the Annual Com-
munity Yard Sale to be held at the
Stanley Ball Diamond on Sunday,
May 17 and Monday, May 18. Call
