Ratanaphasouk and Kenney competed in the championship match which saw Ratanaphasouk emerge as this year's champion. Kenney finished second followed by Michael Coolman of Exeter Public and Dave Oke of Usborne Central. Smorgasbord planned for UCW EXETER - The afternoon unit of the Exeter UCW met last week to plan a smorgasbord for May 7. Marion Dougall opened the meet- ing with a poem followed by prayer. Roll call for the meeting was either a donation of a balloon or Canadian Tire money for Camp Menesetung. The UCW were also informed of a quilt show in Seaforth May 8 and 9. Doris Denham told the group she bought several books at the re- source centre in Mitchell and Le- one Brock gave her quilt repon. Alma Langford and IIlavis Atthill reported on some of the highlights of the recent UCW conference in Chatham. The UCW Anniversary Sunday will be May 24, and will mark the 30th anniversary of the Exeter UCW. The May 7 smorgasbord will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Olive Thomson reported that the Mitchell UCW will be celebrating their 30th anniversary on April 27 at 6:30 p.m. Beryl Elgie, who was in charge of the meeting's program, read a Grand's final 2991-92 production perilously close LONDON - The Grand Theatre's final 1991-92 Mainstage offering will be Dan Needles' uproariously funny The Perils of Persephone. written by the author "of the peren- nially popular Wingfield Trilogy, The Perils of Persephone features an all-star cast including Lorretta Bailey, Marcia Bennett, Patricia Collins, Jerry Franken, Robert King, Miles Potter and Stephen Russell: Douglas Beattie directs this talented ensemble with set de- sign by John. One hot afternoon late in June, the entire population of Persephone Township is threatened with a cat- astrophic nuclear waste disaster when an "Atomic Breeder' truck driven by Francis Hinckley (Ste- phen Russell) crashes into the swamp bordering the Currie family farm. As Reeve and would-be War- den, Eldon Currie (Robert King), must react quickly to avoid a poten- tial life-threatening tragedy. Al- though his wife Marj (Marcia Ben- nett) and daughter Wendy (Lorretta Bailey) arc anxious to assist, his brother Orval (Gerry Franken) heads for the barn. In no time local MPP and Minister of the Environ- mental Henry Burford (Miles Port- er) arrives on the scene eager to take command of the crisis. Upon discovering the extent of the calami- ty, the hapless politician turns to the Premier's shrewd Executive Assist- ant, Skip Fuller (Patricia Collins) to save the day. The performance schedule for The Perils of Persephone is as fol- lows: Previews: April 21,-22 and 23 at 8 p.m. Opens: Friday, April 24 at 8 p.m. Runs: until May 16, Monday through Saturday at 8 p.m. Wednes- days and Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m Pay-what-you-can-(pwyc) matinee: Saturday May 16 at 2 p.m. Prices range from $12.00 to $33.15. $12.00 rush seats, subject to availability, are on sale for Monday through Thursday performances and for Saturday matinees. Rush tickets are available two hours prior to per- formance time on day of perfor- mance in person only. Elgie read an Easter story called "Unto the Least of These". Avis Cudmore on piano and Maxine Sereda on organ enter- tained the group with several num- bers, during which several women paraded in their new Easter hats. United church holds Easter service EXETER - The Exeter United Church congregation celebrated Easter week with many special ser- vices. On Thursday evening, there was a Maundy Thursday service with sacrament of the Lord's supper at 8 p.m. The Good Friday service was held at Triviu Memorial Church this yew. On Easter Sunday a sunrise gath- ering was held at Morrison Dam. After the service, a breakfast was held back at the church for the ear- ly risers. The sanctuary was beautifully decorated for the 11:00 service complete with Easter lilies, paint branches and spring flowers. Spe- cial music was provided by the choir and Susan Graham who sang a solo. Sunday, April 26 is Outreach Sunday. Rev. Craig Railton will be the guest speaker that day.
