Service held at Thames Road

THAMES ROAD - The Sunday

Worship Service on Sunday mom-
ing• Amy Hodgert gave the Call to
Worship and led in the Prayer of
Approach.
Derek Etherington was the Com-
mentator for the service. The Sun-
day School members entered the
auditorium of the church waving
palm branches and shaking their
knten coin boxes while the congre-
gation were singing "Hosanna,
Loud Hosanna".
Irene Richardson read the Scrip-
ture Lesson Luke 19:28-44.
Ryan Parioer took the pan of a re-
porter, Ben David, reporting from
Jerusalan.
Vanessa Bray took -the-'rt;of
Ben Matthew reporting from 'the
temple guards. She read Like 22:1-

United Church Women
Marilyn Pym welcomed everyone
to the Easter meeting of the United
Church Women on Monday eve-
ning. There were Easter lilies for
decoration, Marilyn gave an Easter
Call to Worship. Jean Duncan read
Lute 23:13-25, and Mark 16:1-7. A
shit was put on called "Holy Week"
with Margaret Stewart, Helen Hod-
gert, Marilyn Pym and Jean Dun -
with prayer.
Margaret Stewart called on Jack
Hodgert who had been to China a
year ago March. Then Jack called
L. r /1 Ball of Auburn who also
hon been to China with Jack. Dar-
cy, showed pictures and also gave a
wonderful commentary of their trip
to China. Marilyn Pym thankeden
both mand gave each an Baster
basset.
Margaret Stewart and Jean Dun-
can received the offering and Helen
Hodgert offered prayer. Judith
Parker, president, welcomed every-
one and opened the business part of
the meeting with a poem "Volun-
teering"
The roll call, minutes, treasurers
report, correspondence, board of
stewards report, wt call dealt with.
The ladies will be serving re-
freshments after the Rebecahs and
Oddfellows church service on April
26.
The hymn "Walls that Divide"
was sung and Judith closed with an
Easter Prayer. Margaret Stewart
gave a humorous reading "Translat-
ing a Man's Language" one of Gi-
sele Ireland's writings.
Marilyn Pym conducted a humor-
ous skit "The Sap is Running" with
different people taking part. Lunch
was served by Groups C and W
toss"""�rvhich brought an enjoyable eve -
ming .to a close. Husband -or friends

Kim Riehl of Memphis, Tennes-
see has been visiting her parents
Gerry and Elda Riehl.
Lloyd and Dorothy Knight, Exet-
er were Tuesday supper guests with
Bill and Rhoda Rohde.
Glenn and Dorothy Jeffery were
supper guests recently with Alec
and Mary Ostrom of Varna.
Students of Mt. Cannel were very successful at the recent science fair held in Stratford.

Women meet

GRAND BEND - The Grand.
Bend United Church Women met
on Thursday, with 27 members in
attendance.
For the program, an Easter skit
was performed by three members,
Laura Flewelling, Evelyn Johnson
and Hazel Broad, called "Be a
Guest of My Resurrected Son". The
skit told the tale of a special mes-
senger who invites a poor, ragged
woman and her unbelieving friend
to a king's banquet for his son's
wedding. All was provided free, in-
cluding a white wedding robe for
the guests, but the price was high,
the death and resurrection of the
king's son.
Bertie Keyes chaired the business
meeting. The UCW will be catering
a Men's Dinner on Thursday, May
7, a full course roast beef dinner.
It's open to all men in the commu-
nity, at 58 per person.
The ladies were reminded of the
Easter Ecumenical, hosted by the
Anglican ladies of St. John's By -
the -lake to be held on Wednesday,
April 22 at 8 p.m.
The UCW ladies have made over
800 turkey pot pies in the last two
months - over 300 last month and'
534 this month - supervised by Ber-
tie Keyes. These delicious pies can
now be found in the freezers of
nearly all Grand Bend citizens, a
delicious fundraiser.

Father Beck thanked Elizabeth
Bedard from St. Joseph's who
served as organist for .the 11 a.m.
mass to help the choir liturgy. Oth-
er substitutes will be arranged dur-
ing Holy Week services until regu-
lar organist Paul Dietrich is able to
resume his post.
The regular CWL meeting,
scheduled for April 14, will be
postponed until April _21, so the
choir may rehearse with another or-
ganist. Choir rehearsal starts at
7:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Balloon pilot Ray Ewing sets up his basket Thursday before
taking to the skies in the Remax balloon. Ewing was on hand
to help promote the opening of Remax's new office in Grand
Bend.

GRAND BEND - The Easter Ec-
umenical Service will be hosted by
the Anglican Ladies of St. John's -
By -the -Lake on Wednesday, April
22 at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome
to attend and to participate in the
Program.
Hurry and get your 50/50 draw

er for the Chamber of Commerce
,and tickets arc on sale at various
merchant's stores in town.

Father Beck welcomed the Youth
Group from St. Patrick's Church in
Lucan who attended 11 a.m. Mass.
The sympathy of the parish is ex-
tended to Barry Strong and family,
at the death of his father, Lawrence
Strong. Father Beck reminded the
Congregation to use their "Share
Lent" envelopes on Good Friday, to
help the poor in Thi*d World Coun-
tries, a special church mission pro-
ject.
