A surprising footnote about the final game on Tuesday was that the Gen- erals played nearly. the entire second period shorthanded and Wilcox rose to the occasion. "It was tough forme because the puck was in our end the whole time," ,.said Wilcox. "I was relieved but I knew the game could change at any time." In the fourth game played in Exeter, Generals' .captain -Feed Godbolt broke his wrist, but there was no way he was going to miss :Utegatne.in Clinton and suited up. I wouldn't feel right. I had to still be on the bench," said Godbolt. Early in the second period, McCann was given a penalty. Godbolt came off the bench and was given a penalty for disputing the call even though he was not on the ice at the time of the infraction. For Godbolt, he knew the Generals could come on to win, despite Clin- ton battling back from being down two games. "I knew we could do it. We had our backs to the wall but we came out in a fury." Very quick .goals: Exeter opened the scoring just 54 seconds into the game when the puck was jammed against the post and Steve Farquhar managed to jam it in. It only took Ryan Lindenfield 23 more seconds to wrap around Derek Hoggarth to make it 2-0 for the Generals. McCann's perfect pass to Derek Campbell on the powerplay gave Exeter a comfortable lead. An ice level shot by McCann made it 4-0, still on the powerplay which saw Hoggarth exit and Dave Narhgang go into the Clinton net. Just 11 seconds into another powerplay, McCann put a nice move on a Clinton defenceman and shot it between Narhgang's legs. The home team -;/got one back -when Kennedy scored from Bums and Mark King. In the second period, the Generals were hit with seven minor penalties And Pete Gibson was given a five-minute crosschecking and a game mis- rea►h but. conduct when heapparentlyhic I4autedy. - "We stayed pretty focused'tutawegot a 'lp aamaadt batimerm- balled," said Exeter coach Scott Bent. Rob Catolift ;dot one back for Clinton but McCann's empty-netter clinched it.
