EXETER - _sieadiug _into -last
night's OHA Senior 'A' semi-final
game, the Bxeter Mohawks had the
Blom Rocks on the ropes, as they
were one game away from sweep-
ing their best -of -seven series.
If the Mohawks did win last
night, they could face Pt Edward
this weekend in *head -Ontario fi-
nal aeries.
Sunday eight in. -Exeter at the
South Huron Recreation Centre,
veteran Joe Scherer scored three
goals to pace the Mohawks to a 6-3
win.
-They JEkaraJ have to:'dui a little
discouraged," °-said -Exeter—coach
Dave Revingttan.
Frustration set in for the Rocks in
the third period when referee 'Bob
Morley ejected both Kevin Durick
-and Tun Brunt. ----
While Scherer had a hotvht
with three goals, upping his playoff
total to 17, Bill Glover was the star
of the game as he not only helped
kill oft penalties but scored twice,
once shorthanded.
Exeter is showing their depth, as
they received excellent eftoits Pone
Glover, Richard 'Hawkins, Scott
Pfaff and Chet Couture.
"That's why you have 30 cards at
your disposal," said Revington.
Exeter led 2-0 at the end of the
first period and dominated 4-1:
the -end of 40 minutes but Reving- '

together a full 60 minutes. orte

Following a scorelessfkst'pertod
Friday night, the Rocks got on the.
board first when Jeff Hoelscher
knocked the puck down at the side
of the net and pushed it past Rick
Pikul.
With 23 seconds left on a power-
play, Greg Snyder tied it up as he
put a couple of nice movers on
Rocks' goalie Dave Weiss.
It was nearly 2-1 but Pikul
robbed Turgeon on a breakaway. In
the fust two periods Mohawks'

In the third, Pikul lost sight of the
pack .sad Mike Gingerich tied the
game but with Carlo Magi off for

MOM
a very big wl
IvyInning comes from
the heart.
When two teams
reach the final pla-
teau of a sport, either one can
win. It's the club with the
biggest hean that usually
hoists the trophy high for all
to see.
After the Exeter RSi) Gen -

steals won the Ontario Minor Hockey Association midget 'CC'
title last week, !became a fly on the dressing mom wall.
I watched and I learned. But it wasn't. something I haven't
seen before. The atmosphere in a dressing mom after the 'big
one' is a private one.
No parents, no fans and in this case only a couple of curious
reporters. On ice celebration may be instant, but it has to be
shared with hundreds.
The Generals' dressing mom was filled -with mixed emo-
tions. While the centre of the room was 1br screaming and
jumping up and _down, the outer layers were much different.
Goalie Dave Wilcox, a transplant from Lucan, sat and field-
ed a few questions. Others sat, physically but even more emo-
tionally spent from what had just happened.
Captain Fred Godbolt said it takes a big Meat do win, I
agreed and when he asked me if many -mer Bite •know
-that's what it took,- T told him many do. - •
`-But for those who dof't-yeatize it's the -st t T 'I rt'tlfill-
separates the winners from the runners up, you are missing
the big picture.
Miniature Sean McCann was the best offensive player of
the series, he's a bantam. But his heart is the size of a person
ten times bigger.
Folks, thisisn't a lot of bull. These guys had that extra
something.
i It is only a very select few who can drtrlic:outofihe cup. I
got to do it Tuesday night and I felt honored.
It was a night to remember for me as I tasted victory with
Me boys. They autographed a hockey stick for me which will
ibe cherished and kept well guarded for many years. And the•
:'ride on the fire thick was very special.
The 1991-92 season was a cinderella one for the Generals.
They weren't supposed to get by the second round when they
faced their biggest rivals, Lambeth. But they did.
On Wednesday, -February 19 the boys went to battle against
..Lambeth and they won the first game. " woo nights later it was
aSteve Fan nharovettime goal that made -it two in a row.
Although .Lambeth won the next game,: it•was.a dominated
5-1 victory in'the fourth game which lent the Generals into
the semi-finals against Erin-Hillsburg.
A lot of times after a team beats their biggest -rival, they are
emotionally exhausted and can't go on. However, this was not
the case with_Exeter as they marched all the way to the finals
and their hearts took over.
Early in thecseries against Clinton, I asked Generals' coach
Scott Bogart if he was interested in coaching thc Junior 'D'
Maim in ll -next year.
die didn't hesitate to say a quick no. Bogart likes coaching
t s,:you Gan tell.
The coaching staff of the Generals Bogart, assistant coach
Jeff Dalrymple, manager Bill Brock and trainer Jon Pass-
more did an outstanding job and should be congratulated.
Dalrymple had to make the huge sacrifice of putting :his
own personal hockey career with the Exeter Junior 'D' Hawks
on hold or coaching -with the Generals.
No doubt there were -more than a few whispers around town
:about that. But Bixy, it wasa very mature.decision.
To the players of the 1992 OMHA champions, I thank you
for letting me jump on the band wagon, or in this case, the
ire truck.
Although it is a big no -no to use atm aevords in the paper, I
leave you with this memory...
