Liquor store opens in Grand Bend
GRAND BEND - The Liquor
Control Board of Ontario un-
veiled its new concept in Liquor
Stores in Grand Bend Monday
morning.
The store is built at the south
and of the village in the new
Ausabk Springs Plaza and is ex-
pected to generate about S2 rnil-
lion a year in sales.
Chris Layton of the 1.CBO ex-
plained that the new style of
store reflects a more sophisticat-
ed marketplace for liquor and
wine sales in the province. The
store is tastefully decorated in
muted greens and -burgundy
reds, and has a considerable
amount of genuine wood trim.
There are even coolers to
make a selection of beers and
wines ready for the table or par-
ty. There's ciao a customer ser-
vice counter to handle returns,
exchanges or even provide tips
on what drinks to serve with cer-
tain foods, or provide recipes for
cocktails or dinner menus.
"You'll find a lot more infor-
mation in LCBO stores than you
would before,' said Layton, de-
scribing the focus of the provin-
cially run stones as being
MOM 'yenrioe oriented".
Andy Brandt, chairman of the
LCBO, called the Grand Bend
store "a prototype of LCBO
store of the future". Other Onta-
rio liquor stores due to be reno-
vated will be following this pat-
tern which was fust used in a
new store in Sarnia.
Brandt also pointed out the
new Grand Bend outlet will car-
ry about 300 mare products than
the previous small store on
Main Street that suffered from a
lack of space, very limited park-
ing, and traffic tie-ups.
The Grand Bend liquor store
also prominently features " the
wines of Ontario, as well as a
full selection from Europe,
South America, and Asia. In
fact, Ontario's 25 wineries cele-
brated the sale of the one mil-
lionth bottle of wine in a year
last week.
The ribbon was cut on a new Liquor Store in Grand Bend Monday moming by LCBO chair-
man Andy Brandt. From left are Stephen Township deputy -reeve Bill Weber, Bosanquet
mayor Fred Thomas, LCBO district manager Ron Holmes, Andy Brandt, Grand Bend store
manager Phil Overholt, and Grand Bend mayor Tom Lawson.
Say goodbye
to the
fountain in
the park
EXETER - A prominent feature
beside the bridge in Exeter is so dis-
appear forever atter council posed
a motion Monday evening to have
the old fountain in MacNaughton
Park removed.
"It was always nice when you
over the hill rid SW the water,"
commented councillor Dave Urlin.
"It hasn't worked for duet or four
years," pointed out councillor Ben
Hoogenboom, who also noted it has
become a favourite, if not danger-
ous, swf* a for skateboarders.
Works superintendent Glenn
Kells said the fountain no longer
holds water and repairs would be
expensive.
Plans under development by the
Exeter Lions, however, call for at
least one new feature to be built by
the river to showcase the park.
