missed with 55 seconds left in the
opening frame.
"We had shots that hit the cross-

EXETER - After eliminating the
Lambeth '_Lancers in just five
games, .the Exeter Hawks were
swept by their Mitchell namesakes
in their OI -IA Development League
west division semi-final after los-
ing in overtime Saturday night in
Mitchell.
"We just didn't seem to be able to
get on track against Mitchell," said
a disappointed each John Kenrick.
"I thought we could have given
them a little better run, but in the
final game at least the boys went
down with a fight"
Mitchell 7, Exeter 6
The Hawks , jumped out to a
quick 3-0 lead Saturday in Mitch-
ell, but couldn't hold on as the
home team stole the game with just
46 seconds remaining in overtime.
Defensemen John Bell got things
going just five minutes in when he
rushed to join the play and was set
up by Shawn Chipchase and
Shayne Robinson.
Bell then notched his second of
the game just over a minute later
when he buried a shot from the
.point.
Ray Cousineau's goal at 10:37 of
-.4tlhe first period gave Exeter a 3-0
lead and the Hawks looked to be
well on their way.
But Mitchell regrouped to pot
four goals in a row. and after trad-
ing goals, Exeter stood on the brink
of elimination.
Referee Paul Petrie gave Exeter
,atone of their few breaks of the series
when Mitchell's Mike Hodgert was
:salted for using an illegal stick.
With the Hawks on the powerplay
rind time running out, workhorse
Scott Schiedel netted the tying goal
with one second remaining.
In overtime, the teams both en-
joyed good scoring opportunities,
however Mitchell struck with four
minutes remaining to take the lead.
But Exeter wasn't about to go
down without a fight, tying the
awe just 28 seconds later on Cou-
A iaew's second goal of the game.
1t stayed that way for the next
three minutes with frantic end-to-
end action, before Mitchell's Rob

Exeter goaltender Clint McCann
for the series winner.
Mitchell 10, Exeter 2
After a solid first period Friday at
home, the Exeter Hawks were dis-
graced with a 10-2 loss before a
disappointed crowd.
John O'Hara got the locals on the
board early when he notched his
second goal of the series. With Ex-
eter shorthanded, O'Hara stole the
puck at centre and went in alone on
Dennis Scherbarth. O'Hara pulled
the puck to his left and after Scher -
berth committed himself, O'Hara
slipped it under his pad.
Mitchell replied with two goals in
the first, but the locals hung in just
missing on several good chances.
Unf{xtusetely, Mitchell wrote the
script faiths rest of .the game. As

ized games of the year as referee
Dave Whaley blinded out 122 min-
utes in prrtaltles to Seaforth and
102 to Lucan.
Less than two minutes after he
came into the game, Duskocy was
given an interference penalty when
he got his stick up into Woodbum's
face.
With six seconds left in the ac-
ond period, fights broke out Mite
corner of the rink and during the al-
tercation, Buck was the third man
into a fight when he jumped Dean
Hammond.
Buck grabbed Hammonds face-
mask and kicked him. The above
infractions could carry as much -as
nine games suspension. Buck was
given five minutes for fighting and
a game misconduct.
"I don't know if they [Seaforth]
were doing it on purpose. They're
usually not like that. I think they
were just .frustrated," said Need-
ham,
In the'dl*M period, Cetlleltdi:+es'
Steve Schroeder crosschecked
Chatter from behind which started
another series of fights. Later in the
game, Schroeder cross-checked
VanKerkoerle from behind and was
given a five-minute penalty. While
Hayter and Wilson were squaring
off with their opponents, Jason
Fleet jumped off the bench and
went after Hayter.
Whaley apparently did not see
Fleet come off the bench as he was
not given an M 27 for leaving the
bench. After the game, Hayter said
one of the Seaforth players put his
hands in Hayter's mouth and pulled
leaving the Irish forwards' mouth
very bloody.

This used to be the time of
year when a young man's
fancy lightly turned to this
and that. Not any more.
Now, wftt ?V, movies,

literature these days, it seems
as though their fancies get
turned before their voices
-change.
