HURON PARK - The Sunder-
land Red Wings flew into town on
Saturday and when they left they
had the opening game of the Onta-
rio Minor Hockey Association pee-
wee 'E' championship under their
belts.
Games two and three will b(
played this weekend in Sunderland.
Despite scoring -the first goal- of
the game, the host Stephen Town-
ship Sharks were beaten 3-1 in,
front of a large crowd at the Ste-
phen Township Arena.
Sunderland, 4tocth i of he doham,
came to pia. thevaiitted-
vantage to get to the 1/end
maintain control. Red Wings' de-
fenceman and captain Stew Parish
dominated in the third period in
which the visitors scored a pair of
goals.
"We have to slow down their
number 19, he's a good hockey
player," said Sharks' coach Bob
Parsons.
Stephen Township started the
game shorthanded when Matt Gla-
vin was sent to the box but Sharks'
Wes Regier was physical and kept
the visitors confused on the power -
Rob Morrissey waited atthe side of
the net and took a comer pass from
Jeff Glavin.
Glavin has• led the Sharks during
the season with over 130 points and
found time to be one of the leading
scorers on the Stephen bantam
team as well.
Just five minutes into the. second
period, the Red Wings tied it up
when Parish scored in front of
Sharks' screened goalie Jason Gla-
vin.
"Our goaltender played well. He's
kept us in a few gathes this year,"
said Parsons. _
Ittialie third period, ;fid
scored the winner just 2:22 into the
period when Parish teamed with
Adam Shewen for his second of the
game.
-Less than two minutes later the
Sharks were caught napping and
Pariah fed Greg Ptayre With a nice
pans in front of the net.
'Were going to have to play our
toe ,game and get more shots on
then," said Parsons.
The second game of the series
was supposed to be played on Sun-
day in Huron Park but Parsons said
that has been changed.
"They [Red Wings] wanted to go
'i> -there . _is no
st0a1,"$lions.
Siting over top of the goalie is no fun as Stephen Town- netminder Mike Phoenix in Saturday aftemoon's OMHA
ship's Daryl Parsons goes for a ride overtop of Sunderland playoff game.

early this week, that
Exeter Mohawks de-
fencemen Batty
Reyeharn and Jeff Warren
*Re been called up to play
the remaining few regular
esason games with the Toron-
to Maple Leafs.
Benham and Warren who
both had outstanding seasons
with the Senior 'A' Mohawks, were scheduled to be in Toron-
to for tonight's April Fool's Day game with the New York is -
!enders. ---
"We areliery excited *outlaying the opportunity to'play
for the Leafs," Baynhani told the Times -Advocate before
leaving his wife and daughters for the trip to Toronto.
Baynham, who has been substituting for absent Mohawk
captain Jeff Shipley, said the promotion will help his hockey
career but could hamper the Mohawks if the Leafs decide to
keep him full-time.
"I don't want to be ungrateful to the Leafs, but the M ohawks
need both Moose [Warren] and I for the next series:"
Exeter recently won the Southern Counties Senior 'A' Hock-
ey League championship and are heading into the all -Ontario
semi-finals.
Warren said the only thing that would make this trip a per-
fect one, was if Minnesota North Stars blueliner H ava-Shaw
was to be traded to Toronto. . -
illirl;'ls a chance for Bart [Bayntui t11 tdfito sit tr—"romnto
a couple of good defencemen," said Wanen who was thinking
about taking his oversized dog Murphy to Toronto to play
right wing.
Meanwhile, Exeter goalie Rick Pikul is still awaiting the
call from the St. Thomas Wildcats of the Colonial Hockey
League to sign a contract for next season.
Mohawks' coach Dave Revington is not pleased with his
veterans seeking other teams but knows he can't hold them
back.
"There is nothing I can do about it," said Revington. "They
have proven they can move up the hockey ladder so I really
don't want to stand in their way."
In other spotting news this week, South Huron District High
School athletic director Ron Bogart has been informed by the
Huron County Board of Education that they made a mistake
*when calculating his years of service.
Bogart was told on Friday he still has two more years left to
leach.
"I can't believe they could make such a mistake," said Bo-
gart. "I've given this school the best years of my life and now
it's time for retirement."
Bogart and his sons, Dave and Scott have aspirations to take
over the coaching and managing duties of the newly formed
North Middlesex North Stars of the OHA Development
League.
"We'll give it a shot, it might be fun," said Bogart.

The Exeter Royals of the South Perth Men's Fastball
League have decided to release pitcher Derwen Hodgins. The
ate .thrower has had surgery during the off season which he
` lift hotlell the Royals meiageutent'about.
"If we had known of his.coa ditien-we would have got some
pitching help," said Royals' General Manger Fred Cook.
There is unrest in the Royals camp as shortstop Dan Hey-
wood and second baseman Jim Allison say they won't play on
the same diamond with outfielder Mike Desjardine because of
his total dedication to the Montreal Canadiens.
"I don't care what these guys think," said Desjardine, trying
to defend his beloved Habs. "I am, and always have been, a
Montreal fan, and I am not going to change just because these
guys don't want to play ball with me."
Finally this week, yours truly is happy to announce that de-
spite several offers from TSN and Sports Illustrated to join
their ranks, I have declined.
All the sports teams in the community have decided to link
up financially to match the salary offered by the two groups
and because of their generosity I will be staying with the
Times -Advocate.
Happy April Fools Day....
