Kids Help Phone is a safe, non- threatening way for children to get help without the pressures of a Longer ice season needed to keep hockey in Zurich, council told ZURICH - At least one hockey coach is calling for upgrades to the Zurich arena. Zurich councillor Marg Deichert reported at last Wednesday's coun- cil meeting that a hockey team coach had approached the recrea- tion board to ask they consider add - insulation to the walls and ceil- of the aging arena in an effort to extend the useful season of the icc surface. Deichert said the board has con- sidered such a project in the past, but is sell concerned about the cost of it, especially with the deficit from the hall renovauons still being paid off. "I think he went away sort of sat- isfied, but -not really," said Deichert, but acknowledged that the coach's request highlights a need at the village rink. "A lot of our hockey teams are finding ice time elsewhere," agreed councillor Barb Jeffrey. Deichert said the minor hockey association has said it is even will- ing to pay a premium price to have more ice time available to their teams. The Zurich arena has only mini- mal protection from the weather outdoors and economical operation of its ice surface requires colder outside temperatures than newer fa- cilities. Deichert also reported that the Recreation Board is proposing a smaller budget than last year. While it took $39,400 more to run the facility and its programs than it took in in 1991, the board believes it can keep the deficit down to S35,300 for the 1992 budget for the arena, said Deichert. The deficit is covered by the mu- nicipal general tax levy. face-to-face meeting. The anonym- ity and confidentiality enables chil- then to discuss issues they won't discuss with anyone else.
